Is it just me, or does Car Hero (slide 1) look like something out of South Park?

Sorry- these things are ugly and uninviting. Wheres the Mom & Pop mobile? College students do not populate the highways!

What happening too the world. Even the 'concept' cars are boring. I agree with MajorKong, what happened to the cool stuff. Those cars just look insipid.

Concept car became boring after y2k when most peoples realized that we still have no jet pack or flying car! It kind of hard to get excited about future cars when your part of a generation that living in was called "THE FUTURE" no so long ago. The motto of this decade should be "The 2000 Decade! Been there, done that, got the freaking T-Shirt! Not that exciting!"

'Been there, done that, not so exciting'? We must be talking about diiferent decades. In this boring low-tech decade of ours we've seen the ubiquitous adoption of the Internet, digital cameras, smartphones, gps, super cheap PCs, photorealistic graphics, streaming video, pocket pcs, DVDs, voice control, revolutions in the media, and all the cultural effects related. I'm writing this on an iPod, and today I signed a contract on a touchscreen. How is the present not futuristic?

Yawn. In the future we still haven't learned the value of simplicity? A car that interacts with the human genome? Yet another turns driving into a game? We should be using tech to remove distraction. I don't think they've improved things since BMW brought us the 'neue classe' or Mazda introduced the miata.

it is interesting that a number of these appear to feature "hub motors" or other mechanism that drive the wheels directly rather than through a series of gears, shafts, etc.

They (expecially the orange bubble thingee) look like they were designed to carry their passengers (or should we call them "payloads"?..I'm sure we'll have to pay loads to buy them) through a "series of tubes", which considering the carnage on our highways (and that's just on our highways now) it might be the only sensible way to go.

"cars would adapt to the driver's body movements, synchronizing with the driver's gestures and movements."

What happens if you sneeze?

Excellent question. Not only will they have to have voice recognition and gesture recognition, but they will also have to have involuntary gesture recognition.

If they are going to go so far as to become almost organic, incorporating dna somehow, then I have to agree with MajorKong below. The wheel should already be outdated, IMO, they just seem to cumbersome for technology this responsive. Where's my George Jetson commuter car....humph.

This future sucks. I want the cool future that we had when I was a kid. The one with jet-packs, flying cars and moon colonies.

Where's my flying car already!

That photo reminds me of Mr. Garrison's gyro-car on an episode of South Park. Hopefully it isn't as painful to drive.

The Aptera 2e is available right now! Why wasn't it included? This "article" makes it seem like the car of the future is well.... in the future. It's not... they are taking orders for the Aptera 2e NOW:

The Car Hero looks like a deranged vaginal speculum on wheels.

I've been a car guy for 50 years, and these are just stupid comic book stuff. If you want the car of tomorrow; practical, efficient, and beautiful, just hire Chip Foos, and/or the Year ONe design team.
