Sarah Jessica Parker Explains Why She Chose A Surrogate

Sarah Jessica Parker covers the December issue of Elle, and inside she talks about her SATC costars and twin daughters, Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge, born in June to a surrogate who is now at the center of a scandal. Two Ohio police chiefs now face trial for snooping on the surrogate in her home for tabloid fodder.

Here are some highlights from the interview:

On her love for Sex and the City co-star Kim Cattrall:
"I don't think anybody wants to believe that I love Kim. I adore her. I wouldn't have done the movie without her. Didn't and wouldn't."

On her decision to use a surrogate to carry her twins:
"I knew there would be lots of opinions about, 'Well, why didn't you adopt? Why didn't you do this? Why didn't you do that?' and the truth of the matter is, it wasn't one or the other for us. We had explored, and continue to explore all options, and this one just happened first. This isn't the period at the end of the sentence."

On being a hands-on mom:
"I love the smell of diapers; I even like when they're wet and you smell them all warm liked a baked good. I love the smell of Balmex. Love it."

I'm not a SATC or SJP fan, but I'll give her some credit for starting a low-budget clothing line and doing something to ween SATC wannabes off the overpriced fashion and thoughtless consumption that seemed to be the main reason for the show to exist. I know, she might've done it just to cash in (OK, certainly did it to cash in), but anything to encourage people to buy less expensive stuff and review their spending habits gets credit from a suspicious consumer (ie cheapskate) like me.

Sarah's always come across as a lovely, hard-working person who puts others ahead of herself. Best of luck to her and Matthew in parenting and everything else. Who gives a crap about her looks! She's not Hollywood perfect, looks like a regular person---and you hate her WHY?

SJP seems like a perfectly nice woman, is not an airhead, hasn't done or said anything horrible or despicable as far as I know. Why all the vitriol? I don't get it.

So you don't like the way she looks - and?? Because of that she shouldn't have a career, is that it? You're angry that she's not a "10" and yet is a very successful actress? Or is it that she dresses glamorously (as if she thinks she's a great beauty!) while not being a "10", and therefore has to be cut down a notch? Or is it the fact that she gets leading lady roles (and she, in your opinion, shouldn't)?

Maybe those who spew the vitriol should ask themselves why they have all this anger... Because THAT, people, is not attractive.
