This deal is anti-competitive. Cable service in many communities in monopolized by a single provider. Where competition does exist, it is usually nascent (I don't consider satellite to be competition in urban metropolitan areas). If a cable provider also owns the content, they will be driven to hoard that content for a competitive advantage over the other.

This deal must not be approved!

i think this means bigger and better things for NBC, USA, MSNBC and CNBC, especially the latter two, who need help badly in cable exposure. with that terrible fox business channel around now adding nutjobs like imus and stossel, their popularity will rise a little bit, so CNBC needs to stay competitive and show who is the real leader in business.

as for MSNBC, i think now they will be more recognized and money will actually be put in to improving their programs and attracting more viewers. one of the things i want to see is getting rid of those weekend prison and perverts shows. as much as i enjoy chris hansen, i have seen enough. they need something to compete with the other NEWS networks, even on the weekend. im assuming they dont invest in new programs, and just rely on repeats (which is much cheaper to air) because NBC hasnt been making a profit lately. so with a new owner, and the economy improving, change is coming.

also, for all those people who have complained about how they dont receive MSNBC in their area, i think that problem will also be addressed. im lucky to have comcast, and i will keep it to support NBC. i was supposed to get directv, but when i found out that it is partly owned by the corrupt news corporation and that dirtbag rupert murdoch, there is no way i will be investing money into that entity. you can believe it.

First thing to do-- ditch the "MS" from MSNBC. Makes nooooo sense in 2009! BARELY made sense 10 years ago when they first launched. NBC NewsNet or NBC Newsworld (CTV NewsNet now known as CTV News Chanel andd CBC Newsworld now CBC News Network).

It doesn't matter who owns msnbc, the people have contracts, and they will be honored.

Get your wallets out people. Somebody has to pay for this joint venture. Comcast should just remove the "cast" from its name because it's describes their service.

Shouldn't there be an 'n' in place of the 'm' then? ;-)

I'm SICK of Comcast!!! Not only are they devoid of any semblance of good customer service, but even their customer service greets customers with a message from, of all people, Ben Stein and Shaquille O'Neal, as if THAT would welcome new business, or whatever ridiculous reason they have such crap on their messaging system... NO WONDER OUR CABLE RATES ARE SO DAMNED HIGH!!!!

It should be stopped under anti-trust rules. There's too much cross-media ownership already which only results in manipulation. Especially when local cable monopolies do nothing more than provide lousy service and constantly raise rates with no appreciable improvement.

So the bonus's Wall Street is paying out this year (30 Billion), these people are worth the entire NBC property? Does anyone else see the serious market distortion here?
