The only job he'll be able to get now is a night watchman.

Something like this is indeed unusual in Russia. Beregitjes, tovarish.

These are unusual times in many countries. My hope is that governments will begin to cherish their citizens. What does beregitjes, tovarish mean?

I hope God will safely keep this man. One of the most difficult things to do is to speak truth to power. We as citizens should always support those whose speak this truth in anyway possible. It is very important to know that you are not alone in your struggle. Justice cannot survive without truth. This man is very courageous. Good Luck to him!

A shining example of what life is without the freedoms we have in the US. Is it perfect, no of course not, but it is the best government in the world where people have the right to speak up without fear of reprisal.

To those that scoff at people worried that we are very slowly losing these freedoms you need to open your eyes and look around you. There are so many signs of these changes coming our way.

When the FCC Diversity Director praises a person like Hugo Chavez and his wonderful revolution and did it by controlling the media we have a problem

When advisers to the President taught Marxist lessons for over 10 years and openly called himself a Communist, and another adviser praises Mao, and then the Presidents own words about seeking out Marxist professors while in college as well as his mentor being a self described Communist one begins to wonder just how fast we are moving to where we lose much of our freedom.

Communist regimes were installed by bloody revolutions or wars. Your post is completely inapplicable to our situation.

I'm a Russian Language and Studies major and I have looked on in abject despair at what Russia is turning into. I've begun to think that the Russian people have a deep rot in their souls. But fortunately, people like him and Anna Politikovskaya remind us that there are good people in Russian society. What is unfortunate is that throughout Russian history, the thugs have usually ruled the roost.

"I've begun to think that the Russian people have a deep rot in their souls." You should change your major because obviously your "studies" of Russia have yielded woefully little insight to the complexity of the Russian identity.

I agree with SiberianRat here. You need to switch to liberal studies.

The more he is known, the more they will be afraid to do anything immediately. It will be an interesting test of the power of the internet, like in Iran. Blocking the internet creates more problems than it may be worth. And they can't do it forever.

You underestimate Russian ruthlessness. They will kill anybody if he or she threatens their status quo.

The first time I listened to him and noticed the hesitancy in his speech and some of the pronunciations, I thought he'd had a nip or two. Then I realised it was from the stress of knowing what he was doing and what would probably happen to him.

Very brave man to take on something as ingrained in society as the corruption in Russian police. They've been that way since the Tsarist era.

Poor Russian policeman, Alexei; he is lucky, however, to live in Russia.
He has nor seen corruption levels in the US Congress

We could be a bit flippant and say, Russia must not believe in Unions either,
or
Russia abuses its workers also -
or
The police in Russian are as corrupt as some in our own nation -
or
That is man is very brave, a man who sees wrongs; however, he lives in a country which is so tightly interwoven with corruption, it turns on its own people --- kind of sounds like us also.

I wonder how long it will be before people who's eyes are also tired, with deep sighs of discouragement and shoulders shrugged by burden, appear on You Tubes decrying the corruption which has woven its way into the fabric of our own society.

-- a brave and tried man on the You Tube.

There will always be some form of corruption in any society, but you have to admit that we who were born and raised in the US have no real understanding of what serious corruption is within Law enforcement and the military.

The people that do not understand how valuable our freedoms are will be the ones posting comments like Stanmann and others.

Wake up and fight for the freedoms we have, don't let the government continue to grow until we have lost our freedoms as well.

"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong
enough to take everything you have." Thomas Jefferson

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.
George Washington

I can't help but notice how you write of the ills of big government without mentioning one time the corporate entities who have bought and paid for the representatives to move forward agendas that directly benefit them. Earlier you responded that we live in a country where people are allowed to speak up without fear of reprisal. Some of the G 20 protesters may disagree. This definitly is a time for people to be vigilante in many areas.

i understand more than what you let on billhhodges. There is always corruption, but our nation is getting very deep into corruption. You posted about Obama, the corruption was there long before him. I will stick my by post. This Russian police officer is very brave, and truth is important to a free society, it is important to confronting corruption. Our nation is reeling from the results of corruption, Wall Street and corruption in many other areas, which is touching every element of our society. We have corrupt cops here, take a look at what is going on in Detroit, and we had a few like this brave Russian cop, cops like Brown and others who raised their voice on corruption.

I stick by what I posted, My post is about not allowing ourselves to sink deeper into corruption, or there will be many like this brave Russian on You Tubes saying the very same thing, and possibility facing horrific consequences.
