Who cares, this country has a messed up overweight girl to skinny girl ratio. Who are we to criticize anywhere else.
Have the French yet adopted the MSG and high fructose corn syrup laden diet that's been integrated into most American food? Unless you buy organic and make everything from scratch you're eating those two additives that are connected to the massive increase in obesity the US has had since the '70's.
Corn syrup is peculiar to American corn growers who enjoy governmental subsidies. In Europe the sugar is more likely to be beet or cane.
As a french person living in the U.S, and having lived here for five years, I must say this article isn't really right.. and that lotsw of comments here are very, very true!
It is mostly because of the composition of meals that there are so many obese people ove rhere. And I live in Colorado which is a pretty healthy state... I honestly am shocked when I go to New York, Utah or Washington. They it hits me: apart from "organic foods" there is no real food, just pre-pocessed, packed full of preservatives and sugars of all kinds things that most people eat. Who can affor a $6 lettuce? I'll have the $2 one please...
Statistically they are thinner...It is true....you go there and most fat ppl are America...I think it's a bit more realistic though. Even in Quebec in Canada they are all thin. A size eight or 10 is curvy...anything over a 12 sorry, is just plus sized or big Women who are fat here like to say they are curvy but sorry, real curvy is like Marilyn Monroe who was a 1950s size 14 and since sizes have expanded since then to accommodate ever expanding Americans that is the equivalent to today's 8. A 14 today is about a 20 in 1950s sizes. How times have changed and we have gotten more unhealthy. IT's sad really. We need to stress not thin but curvy--but the real definition of it. Not curvy masking a nice word for fat. sorry but it's true
I'm sorry but many women are not thin due to health reasons, it's because they want to look like their skinny neighbor or the woman at the gym. I have a French friend and they cook almost everything in butter.
Wow! There is nothing going on in the world? This is the news?
An elegant European women in Rome told me when they see fat people they just assume they are American. And it was true in Rome the fattest, most slovenly dressed tourists were American.
Among all the elegant European women the French women still stand apart in their manners and style.
It is part of their culture.
So they can all look alike. I've seen some fat Italian women too. Not all of them look like Sophia Loren.
Nice try, but American is the most obese country in the world.
Love French women......or any women that takes care of her body and health.
I was in the Mediterranean on vacation a month ago, including several days in France, and did not see one native that was overweight. Not even pudgy. It was astounding. The only fat people I saw were other tourists.
Everyone walks everywhere, and the food is healthy and delicious.
its the law, fat people are not allowed out of their homes.........they're hidden away like leapers.
I don't put a lot of faith in this study. I lived in Nice for a couple of years (best couple of years of my life!), and that was one thing that totally amazed me- a lack of overweight people. Usually the ones who were obese were American, British, or German. The food was absolutely incredible. So was the wine, and sigh! so were the women.
