Save Ms Jolie for the "Kay Scarpetta contracts wasting disease" entry to the series.

My genuine first thought was actually Helen Mirren, but I don't think the powers that be would have it.

I do see Diane Lane as a contender, so to Maria Bello, Mariska Hargitay, if she wasn't synonymous with her Law and Order role, Melina Kanakaredes, all worthy of discussion.

Annabella Sciorra would be my choice, maybe Famke Janssen, second?

Jodie Foster was supposedly PC's first choice but Foster felt it was too similar to Clarice Starling. The story goes that PC wouldn't take no for an answer and pursued Foster to the point of a restraining order put in place by Foster to keep her away. Thats the rumor anyhow..

Now she has decided on Jolie and even though PC's message board lit up like a Christmas tree with outrage from long time fans.. she seems committed to pursuing Jolie for the role.. it might be a series of movies.. with Jolie on board it would definitely be green lit by the studio..so I guess we will see.

I agree that if we could rewind the clock 10 years.. Jolie would be better suited as Lucy then Kay. And Foster would have been brilliant in the role. As well as the late Natasha Richardson as Kay.. but the author actually knows best what they are looking for to transform something from a novel to film. Esp when they specifically have it written into the condition of the movie rights.

I watched the documentary about Patricia Cornwell spending her own funds to finally reveal the identity of Jack The Ripper through DNA analysis.

It was mesmerizing, and so was she.

Now, with this interview, I couldn't even concentrate on what she was saying because of what she has had done to her face.

She has accomplished so much to be proud of though her talent, intelligence, drive and determination!

Why can't she (and other talented women) "Honor the stages of your life" and wear every one of your years with pride and dignity?

A 53-year-old woman with the tell-tale "caught in a wind tunnel" face isn't fooling anyone, except maybe herself, and the unbridled admiration of at least some her fans is bound to take a hit. It's like she (and Kay) sold out to personal vanity.

Sure post more author interviews. As a book lover who works full time, thus no time to watch these interviews, I appreciate them. The more book news that is on this page the happier I am. Thank you for including a book section on your site.

As a bibliophile, yes post more. That is, if we can hear more from the author vs the interviewer.

Why Angelina Jolie? She is too young to be Kay Scarpetta. Kay should be a little bit older, more mature. I don't see Jolie having a niece like Lucy Farinelli. Kay is cool and calm. I don't see Jolie bringing that out. Jolie should be a little bit rebelious, much like Lucy. I don't have anyone in mind from Hollywood but Jolie would be better off playing as Lucy. A figure close to Katie Couric in maturity would do (for me) for Kay. Now that would be hot!!

I am dissapointed if we don't have readers who've read Patricia Cornwell. I've read all the Scarpetta Series and the Andy Brazil Series. Disappointed that the Andy Brazil series ended and that the last Andy Brazil Series did not have Virginia West.

(off topic) but I wonder when Nora Roberts's JD Robb might go movie on Eve Dallas and Rourke!!

I agree that Angelina Jolie would not be the best fit....but she wants a hit. A 40 something actor is a better fit. Someone who comes off extremely bright, tough, yet insecure. Let's not forget a bit cold at times and cynical.

Kay is anything but cool and calm. She is a mess and that's what makes her so endearing. Despite being brilliant and tough, she is a complete basket case. There are so may good 40 something actresses.

-Jodie Foster
-Amy Brenneman
-Diane Lane
-Monica Bellucci - Italian actress

Angelina is an awful choice.

Jodi Foster and Diane Lane, both outstanding actors, would both be excellent in this role and be box office draws. Is this already set in motion or can PC change her mind?

I enjoyed the first few Scarpetta novels; but the necessity of having to continually "amp-up" sequels, has sent them over the top into hystericality and reality-bending. I don't bother with them any more.

Her other series: Andy Brazil? Based in Charlotte, NC? I don't think I even finished the first one. Some writers have the gift of writing funny and off-the-wall mysteries; unfortunately, Ms. Cornwell is not among that cohort. Granted that she does hysteria and paranoia capably. It wasn't as horrible an example of the genre as Robert Ludlam's "Road to Gandolfo" or its ill-deserved sequel, but was still an utter failure by an otherwise-capable author.

Donald E. Westlake and Lawrence Block (who actually collaborated on two novels) played that venue very successfully, with their Dortmunder and Rhodenbarr series of novels. Any author wishing to play in the same league should read some of their works and ask themselves hard questions as to their capability of matching their skills.

I haven't read Cornwell's biography of the Rev.Billy Graham's wife; but I'll bet it was funnier than "Hornet's Nest" or whatever the title of her first "screwball mystery" was.
