What's Your Reaction?

Oh la la! Since the White House released the official Obama family photograph by Annie Leibovitz last month, we've been wondering who was responsible for the first daughters' dresses. And now we have an answer: Parisian boutique Dino e Lucia. Described as "boho chic," practical and original, the brand has offerings for both boys and girls between ages 4 and 14. Prices range from $100 to $350. Guess we know where the Obama girls went shopping while in Paris this summer!

Uh-oh, Obama is dressing his girl in French made clothes. He MUST be a socialist.

I wish America would stop trying to dictate how President and Mrs. Obama raise, educate, clothe and entertain their children. They seem to have done a fine job thus far without the opinion of a bunch of people who have not been proven to be great in the parenting department and who aren't coughing up the funds that usually support parental decision-making. All of you busybodies need to find something else to focus on like your own familes - which are probably not even close to perfect.

How do you know that those who are commenting on the Obamas are "probably not even close to perfect?" Now that's a perfectly presumptuous remark!

The issue is not about how the Obamas are raising their children. Nor is it about clothing them per se. It's about the message the clothes are sending to America and the world: after all, this is an OFFICIAL portrait and not just a random snapshot. Why does something have to be EUROPEAN in order to be decent and fashionable?

I agree that few can clothe themselves in all American outfits: thanks to greedy American designers outsourcing their manufacturing to other nations. However, since the Obamas are widely emulated by people around the world, wouldn't it have been nice had they given a thumbs up to American designers who DO manufacture clothes in the good ol USA? The fact that the Obamas are no ordinary family, but the First Family makes this even more important!

You just found out about the dresses, and the only reason you know, or think you know, about the dresses, is because someone snooped and snooped to find out the maker/ designer. The clothes could have been bought in DC, New York, or any where for that matter. Every time I look at a garmet, I see tags that state, "Made in Machau", "Made in Vietnam", "Made in Costa Rica", "Made Some Where Else, But NOT in the US". Fuss on!

Adorable dresses, very cute line if you click through.

My kids never wore the particular brand but they did have a few Catmini and Oililly things and my daughter wore Asters for years, cutest shoes.

What's up with folks getting all snarky? Methnks it's petty jealousy.

I can't believe some of the ridiculous comments on this thread. I think spending a few hundred dollars on clothing for a family photo is no big deal, especially for the first family of the (ostensibly) most powerful nation in the world.
My only observation: All the outfits are fine but but I think the photo composition would have looked better if the President and Sasha had been wearing a darker color.

Thank you for not asking who wore it better!

The Obama's were millionaires BEFORE they took up residency in the White House. Most of the time their children are photographed wearing average clothes from averagely-priced stores. It is not showing off or spoiling children to dress them in special clothing for a special occasion - such as an historic family photo of America's first family. And all of you folks who think this family should be made-in-America clothes 24/7 check the labels on everything you and your family owns and toss everything that doesn't live up to the same standards you expect from the Obama family. Most of the clothes sold in America's major discount stores are not made in the USA either.

My point, which landed in the black hole of moderation, was that it would have been nice to have the first family wear clothes bought from an American store. Macy's is an American institution that is under great financial strain at the moment. With all the people who will go out and try to emulate the Obama girl's dresses, it would be nice if they went to an American store instead of a French website.

A quick check of Macy's website, shows many nice dresses, some very similar to the dresses they wore in the picture.

As if any clothing is 'made in the usa'.

My niece spent part of her summer in Paris and returned with several gifts for family members. I got a tee shirt, but my one and only grandson received the cutest onesie (sp) and it is so French. The only thing ... he outgrew it in a matter of weeks.

Dressing my two sons when they were children was a special joy ... and as I traveled, selecting uniquely beautiful clothing made the trips home especially nice. Dressing me now is an even greater joy.

Mrs. Obama does a wonderful job in keeping her family looking lovely... as any mother would...

Children of Presidents receive gifts from their parents' counterpart during state visits. They could have received the dresses as actual gifts from the Sarkozys or could have received gift certificates to a French children's fashion store.

That would be very nice to get some clothes for Obama's children from Mrs. Sarkozy (Carla Bruni). That woman knows how to put an outfit together.

Actually I almost wish Mme. Sarkozy would conjure up some designer clothes for women because I really like the cut of her clothes.

The Obamas can buy their children what they please that's their choice just as you wrote this green of envy article.

Another slap in the face to the great number of Americans who are barely getting by. I don't find this show-offy behavior very becoming, and spoiling your kids rotten does them no good either. What is MO trying to prove dressing her kids in such a way?

So should they be eating at soup kitchens, too?

I am not rich, but if my child was taking a photo that would be publicized all over the world I could afford this dress, and I'm not a self-made multi-millionaire. No one was jealous of G W Bush and co. with his inherited wealth, yet a family that epitomizes the American dream seems to be the sole source of hatred and jealousy by some self-proclaimed 'real' American citizens.

I can't even pretend I'm surprised.

One more thing... do you think people started suffering on Jan 20, 2009? Were there no homeless, no poor or no downtrodden prior to that date?

Chill. They dressed up for a family portrait. How un-American.

He/she is missing a lot more than yoga classes. A functioning brain, for instance.

Beautiful family portrait. I 'm so glad Michelle didn't wear one of those massive belts she usually wears under her bossom.

the first family is taking a picture which will become a historical artifact. it makes sense that they would all look very nice--as in wearing fine clothing. who doesn't wear their best for special occasions?

i often wonder if people who criticize this kind of thing get exhausted from working themselves up over something as innocuous as what other people wear (it's not like the 1st family is wearing fur, or clothes made in a sweatshop--so ease up!)

Lovely family picture. I especially like Malia's beautiful dress. Why would anyone want the First Family to wear made in China Wall Mart garbage? I'm certainly not rich, I shop at Winner(Canada) which is similiar to your JC MAC. I wouldn't even purchase underwear from Wall Mart. They are spending their own money and have a right to purchase whatever they want, wherever they want. I don't recall anyone criticizing Nancy Reagan as much with all her designer labels or Laura Bush for that matter. I am begining to think all the negativity has to do with the colour of their skin.

Least we forget Cindy McCain. Has she ever been seen in public without at least $20,000 on her back at one time? Please don't get me started, Let's take it back a second. Mamie Eishenhower wore nothing but fur. Jackie O, of the Mr. and Mrs. Camelot fame, was arm and arm with Oleg Cassini, Bill Blass, Balenciago and all of the rest of the Best the World had to offer. Laura Bush ordered $10,0000 worth of china two days before she left the White House, (wearing Oscar deLaurenta). Don't give me the how they spend their money sceanario. There is no comparison. Michelle Obama is a millionaire, she spends her own money and could care less what anyone thinks. Most of this is nothing but the usual (How dare she be black and accepted more than I am), maybe because she likeable and minds her own business. Whether we like the belts or not, it's her. If we don't like it, we can all just look the other way.

They don't get exhausted. Their miserable souls are desperate to be fed their daily dose of hatred and jealousy. It gives their frown wrinkles a workout.
