Kate Moss's Motto? 'Nothing Tastes As Good As Skinny Feels'

Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/18/2010 5:12 am Updated: 05/25/2011 2:40 pm

At age 35, Kate Moss has a lengthy list of accomplishments to her name: supermodel, designer, perfume-maker, hair-care-product-creator, singer and mother. So what kinds of sayings does she remember in order to achieve success?

"There are loads," Moss told WWD. "There's 'Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.' That's one of them." But at least she showed a hint of humanity, adding, "You try and remember, but it never works."

Moss also talked about her mentors, namely her trusted friends who tell her "Oh no, Kate, that's not a good look." But she knows that beauty comes from the inside:

"It sounds really corny, but I think that if you're beautiful inside, it shows on the outside for sure. You can be a pretty face, but if you're not a nice person, it just doesn't work. I'm not traditionally a beauty, but apparently people think I'm all right. If you're a nice person, it definitely helps."

I'd have to say, I think some people here are thinking about this wrong. I love this motto. It reminds me not to overeat and to keep going to the gym. Americans today are on the fast track to making this the fattest nation in the world. Actually, we've already accomplished that. We put crap in our bodies and then try to justify our fatness by making it socially unacceptable to talk about "fat people." Well, I say its disgusting and irresponsible. Nearly half of Americans are overweight or obese and there are as many obese people as overweight. Our portion sizes are HUGE and we eat foods FULL of sugars, fats and carbs. We eat more meat than any other nation. Obesity is the number ONE cause of death in this country and diabetes rises every year. Don't cop out on exercise and eating right just because you're too lazy to deal with it.

I eat well. I eat three meals a day, but I limit my portions and eat mostly vegetables with very little meat. I exercise at least three or four times a week, for at least 30 minutes. Skinny doesn't mean starving yourself. To me, it means healthy eating and realizing what greedy, excessive eating we do in this country. To me, its not just respecting my body, but being having social responsibility to realize that buying crap only supports a corrupt and disgusting food industry.

I'd have to disagree with Kate. I've never been as skinny as her, but I can't imagine feeling any happier than I am. I LOVE my athletic, curvy body and truly enjoy eating. I would never desire to be as skinny as Ms. Moss...I hope most women would agree.

p.s. make sure you smoke a lot of cigarettes so you don't want to eat

If I had a daughter I would tell her you get a lot farther in life being stupid and pretty than being average looking and smart. Jessica Simpson dropped out of high school as a junior. Read Kate Moss's wiki page to see about her education. Even Marilyn Monroe got married at 16. I may get flamed for this but Princess Diana was a very poor student. I will encourage my daughter to ignore school and just focus on her looks she will get a lot farther. Dear 1st lady Michelle: make sure Malea and Sasha know this so they won't waste time on school like you did!

Oh dear, I hope you are joking? I would agree with you that looks play a pivotal role in Some successes, but I suppose it depends what success you want? If you want to only be an actor, then yes - looks seem to trump all...but what about the myriad of Other (much more complex and comprehensive, and I would argue fulfilling) things life has to offer?

Marine biology, zoology, anthropology, science, medicine, art, writing, and on and on....your daughter might want to work at NASA, travel the world, work in publishing, be a Director (rather than an actor), a singer (I could name Lots of very successful female singers that are not Barbie dolls), work in medical research, software (btw the people at Google get paid a fortune, and one of the top women is a pretty blonde with a killer math mind from Stanford), go into business, be a pilot, an engineer, work in international development...the list is endless....although ironically the list is Only endless for those with an Education to know they exist and the imagination to want to really do something fulfilling with their life.

Also.....Unless you are joking ? - If I were you, perhaps I'd enroll in a college course? It is true, that not all these professions will pay well - Unless you are Good at them and at the top of your game - but the same holds true for acting (or modeling)........regardless of the field you are in, and in most, yes, looks do help (although makeup and good dress sense can fill in the gap in looks in most cases) but Ultimately it is the brightest who get ahead.

Btw - I wouldn't say Princess Diana, Marilyn Monroe or Jessica Simpson are good examples in any case....two died awful deaths and unarguably led quite tortured lives....not something I would wish on anyone I loved.

'Nothing Tastes As Good As Skinny Feels'?

Kate has obviously never had a Peppercorn burger from the Crown & Lion in Mississauga.

If she has, I'll bet she 'refunded' afterward.

"Thin" and "skinny" are not the same as slim or slender.

Doctors are seeing pre-teen girls with eating disorders. In the years when girls should be eating and growing strong, they're learning bulimia and anorexia. God knows what's going to happen when they try to have kids and their bones don't have the calcium to build a baby.

Sorry, Kate. Skinny doesn't feel good; skinny feels weak. And didn't Ms Moss lose an important modeling job over drug abuse? A few extra pounds is better than frying one's brain with c0caine.

I'd rather be thin than eat. It's a fair trade-off!

If her motto is as good as her perfume ( Walgreens) - I'll take both to heart.

You just bring your skinny bones over here, sugar.

Nope. West Indian/Caribbean food tastes better than skinny feels (gotta love that roti, channa, dhal, beef patties, etc.), as does Mexican food (cheese enchiladas are so delicious!)

Yeah, there's definitely plenty of foods that taste better than skinny feels. Plus there's always a little something called 'moderation' to stay fit.

And being fit feels better than being skinny.
