Los Angeles Times:

"We have a climate crisis at the same time we have an economic crisis at the same time we have a national security crisis," Gore said to a cheering crowd of thousands at Chase Field in Phoenix. "We need to create millions of good new jobs. Well, I know where we can get at least 2.5 million good new jobs: by building green buildings and retrofitting."

Self Serving hypocrite and opportunist. This whole thing is falling down around his ears... as the Earth continues to cool... more and more people are seeing this thing for what it really is.. .a huge grab on control over our lives, a reason to raise taxes and a way to keep the third world from pulling itself out of poverty.

Gore stands to make hundreds of millions more as he travels around on his private jet, spewing out carbon and he lights up his 23,000 sq ft mansion. The science says that 19% of all of the carbon being generated is related to the production and consumption of meat and only 13% is related to energy production and yet Gore won't live a vegetarian life style... Hmmm some crisis!

He stinks

I'm more for using wood with lots of smoke - than the electric or gas types.

Why not build nukes and have them convert to hydrogen production as they come offline from the peak load of the daytime and go back to power as the day starts? That would produce so much clean power until we can come up with better technology that does not involve Al's "risky scheme" and nobody on wall st get rich off our backs trading "credits"

I see so many comments criticizing Gore for making money. I thought conservatives were all about making money. But, of course, it's a democrat doing it, so it must be wrong.

There is something called leading by example, this is not the guy to follow. His carbon footprint is like a guy wearing snowshoes.

Public money to support his businesses and put money in his pocket so he can pay his $20K electrical bill at home.

His pool house alone uses $500 in electricity per month.

I don't know how one could separate out the pool house from the rest of the home and offices. However, Gore home uses natural gas, so it is unlikely to be true. Also, Gores home has been retrofitted to save energy. Which is what he recommends as a means of saving money and reducing CO2 output.

If you are ok with the drilling mania polluting YOUR water then just keep up the whine. It isn't about Al gore, so stop trying. If you are happy with the gas companies drilling and polluting millions of gallons of water everyday, then do keep up with pretending it's his fault.

this article is about al gore and his promotion of unrealistic ideas for his religious belief.

it's simply unrealistic to expect mankind to conserve energy or dump huge amounts of money into clean energy sources that has relatively little output.

it's even more unrealistic to expect people to retrofit their homes using "green" materials. this is an attempt at recieving govenment funds and it will work. but it will not create jobs other than gore's accountant having to hire another bookkeeper to keep track of his growing income from our wallets.

I am all for alternative sources of fuel but they need to be economical .... without government subsidy.

the installed cost of solar panels runs between $7 to $9 per watt, so a 5 kW system would cost on the order of $35,000-$45,000 and an 8 kW system would be anywhere from $56,000 to $72,000.

So Let's say the solar panels cost $50,000 and supply all the electricity you need, and your electric bill is $200.00 per month average. The payback is around 20 years. That is a pretty big up front investement. for a 20 year payback.

What is the life of solar panels?

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:15 PM on 11/14/2009

Solar panels are generally guaranteed to last 25 years and retain 80-90% of their efficiency. There are many examples of solar panels put up in the 60's and 70's that are still going strong. They were, after all, first designed for the harsh environment of space.

Most solar installers are now offering financing to eliminate the upfront cost of going solar (the government subsidies allow the finance companies to offer the upfront payment thamselves because they have a guaranteed payback over time). Unfortunately it's a worse payback than buying a hybrid.

This seems to be a bit more reasonable:

Green building and renewable energy is the biggest no-brainer of our time. Kudos to Al Gore for taking such a reasoned and high-profile stand on the issue. It's time to do your energy efficiency measures for the winter season... and get a solar evaluation to see the cost/benefits of solar too: http://www.dasolar.com/

You may Like Al Gore or you may hate Al Gore. You may believe in global warming or you may think it is a lot of bunk. I don't care.

Americas dependence on foreign oil is economically and strategically unsustainable. Conservation is a low tech way of saving energy. America has the stuff and the manpower needed to implement these conservation measures. This is a national security issue and the masters of fantasy finance should not be allowed to prevent energy independence from happening.

environmentalists become climate "scientists". they started their research with a conclusion and looked for data that would support their religious cause, casting out or ignoring data that contradicts their belief.

now it's a billion dollar government handout industry using you tax dollars. if other groups want government funding it's best not to disagree with their core dogma.

The great environmentalist George W Bush campaigned and took office sounding a lot like you, he argued against climate change, claimed the science was weak or inconclusive, Gore and the treehuggers were out to make money, etc, etc.

In 2001 he asked the National Academy of Sciences to look at all the evidence, consider all the facts, get to the bottom of things, and give him a full report.

They did.

After March 2001 he announced that climate change was a fact, influenced by human activity.

Mebbe you're smarter that GW and the NAS. Or, maybe you need to put down the talking points and get an education.

It's called a paradigm shift. People don't take to it easily. But it usually turns out to be a very good thing. In this case it will likely save the world -- if we create change quickly enough.

Pollution is killing us. Oil will soon be used up and is not renewable. Even if you believe those that say climate change is untrue, there are way too many other issues coming to a head.

We need to adapt or our standard of living will suffer.

great idea!

people will forget that they can't pay their mortgage so they'll take out a second mortgage to pay for a retrofit. this, of course, will give them a job retrofitting their own home. all you need to do is pay for the materials via a company gore has stock in.
