Cuba Bodybuilding Competition (PHOTOS)

Last weekend was Cuba's 22nd regional and national bodybuilding competition, which took place in the Mariana Grajales cinema in Havana, and featured some 50 contestants from the island. Bodybuilding is one of those activities that is simultaneously fascinating and slightly discomforting, and the photos below speak to its unique, if also slightly peculiar, aura. No steriod users here. These people are all much too small. None of them would make it past the prelems of the Mr. Olympia, Mr. Universe, Mr. America competitions. They all look like natural bodybuilders.

I've always thought that when people build their muscles up that much, they look as if their bodies are about to explode.

Maybe one of these guys can be Cuba's Arnold Schwarzenegger (bodybuilder-turned-politician).

I think body builders who go to these extremes look repellent.... like some kind of weird hybrid alien human. They gross me out , especially their thick necks .

i have a friend who was into competive body buidling and lost her life earleir this year after when she underwent liposuction . she was in her early 40's.

There's nothing like the human body for me as an amateur artist, anthropologist and medical researcher.

These body-builders show how the body is put together, its intricacy and its wonder. Any body, including a big blob body, has its own interest, however, these bodies show us how muscles, circulation, etc work, and the body's amazing complexity and harmony.

Thus I've always loved body builders and really view them as the more "natural" form of the human body. For Americans to survive in the natural world today would certainly require a lot more muscle than probably 99 percent of our population currently has that's for sure.

So, different strokes for different folks!

ANd, I suspect Davinci, Michangelo and millions of others would agree with me.

I find these men extremely unattractive. I can respect the hard work and discipline required to achieve a body like that, but in the end I'm turned off by it, so personally it's hard to see what the point is.

I'll stick with crushing on martial artists, thanks very much.

The point is to shape their bodies through endless hours of hard work, achieving results and enjoying the fulfillment of achieving their goals.

Many have had surgery including peck implants (the male equivilent of a boob job), calf implants are very popular and some even have their butts done...lifted and implants to fill them out and give them that bubble butt.

Any implants would cover up a bodybuilder's veins and striations during competition.
