What's Your Reaction?
Joe Biden

"SNL" Opened last night with sketch mocking Joe Biden, the Obama administration, and concessions they've made to get the health care bill passed. "The president wants to pass a health care bill so bad that he will literally sign anything. You can water it down however you like--as long as it's a stack of paper with the words 'health care' on it he'll sign it," an eager Biden said from the Oval Office while President Obama is abroad.

Vice President Biden (played by Jason Sudeikis) went on to run down other concessions they're willing to make in order to get the bill passed. "For those Republicans who want the bill to protect doctors from medical malpractice suits, you win, we'll agree to a provision that makes it illegal to ever sue a doctor." He also agreed that no copies of the bill would be printed in Spanish, and that the first Republican senator to cross the aisle and sign the bill would get a secret provision attached that can be anything from banning gay marriage to making it illegal to be Nancy Pelosi.

For the life of me I cannot get any NBC videos to work. I've tried four different web browsers on four different computers. Is there some kind of right-wing conspiracy going on I don't know about?

The skit would have been more effective with the excellent subject matter if they had used anyone other than this Biden character. In life, Biden is not offensive as this characterization portrays him and so it is annoying. It is even hard to understand what he is saying.
But, that aside, I don't think the Obama Adm. cares that we all think they are dropping the ball on health care. Unfortunately, they might not take off their blinders until after the 2010 elections.

My take on this is that the Dems need to get a backbone and enact health care reform that actually benefits the American people and to heck with the Republicans and what they think.

When will Obama come down on SNL for not being funny?

All are well deserved skewers of Obama.

I know many liberals don't take note of this, but this SNL routine points out the differences between how SNL treats liberals and conservatives.
When they make fun of conservaties it is usually a viscious attack, often attacking the character of the conservative, or the conservative's intelligence. The worst I remember hearing on SNL was in a bit about the NY Times press meeting, one reporter said of Sarah Palin's husband, "You know he's 'doin' her", referring to his own daughter.
When liberals are the "target", it is usually good natured kidding, or, as in this case, chiding them for not being liberal enough.
I admire Chevy Chase for condidly admitting that when he was on SNL and they made fun of Gerald Ford, they had an agenda. They wanted to destroy Ford, and help the democrats. At least he was honest about it.

The fact that very few people are upset about it also tells you where conservatives are in the realm of public opinion.

Conservatives need to clean up their act. That is why they are losing, it isn't because liberals have magic bullets.

The democrats win a couple of elections, and all of a sudden the conservatives are losing. I think we should probably wait until the mid-term elections before we put the nail in the coffin. Based on the job that the Democrats are doing, the Republicans will be back in charge in no time.

The incest joke you refer to is fabricated - although that's appropriate, since "MOR"ers like yourself often talk with no regard for fact, only that fact itself somehow conform to your "reasonable, studied" opinion that every thing is somewhat equal and every side makes a decent point. Even when the other side is arguing about make-believe "death panels", you are willing to carefully consider their opposition.

It is perhaps because this joke hits so close to home for compromising "MOR"ers that you don't find it funny. I myself generally don't find SNL that funny any more (though I was glad to tune in a couple weeks ago to catch "Swiiiiine Fever"). However, their political jokes frequently hit the nail on the head, and they give it to Dems as much as they do to conservatives.

SNL is actually crossing a line that doesn't get crossed much. Dems are often chided for not getting in line with the Obama program, by Obama, by Rahm, and by many mainstream Dems who don't recall recent negative consequences caused by blind devotion to a President.

This clip isn't "good-natured" as you claim, but rather sums up the progressives' main argument against the Obama administration: despite what (flowery rhetoric) they say, they are willing to sell out all of their talked-about principals as soon as any Republican raises his voice in protest (Obama succumbing to DeMint's lies that a Honduran coup never occurred and dropping support for Zelaya is the latest example)

How is this sketch different from their Sarah Palin sketch? It is called humor and satire. It is funny because it hits close to the mark.

Conservatives simply hate when they are called to account and declare it a vicious attack. No, it is a comical and satirical attack and wouldn't hurt if you didn't know it was true.

At the same time though, it is so true and is very unfortunate.

That is pretty much how it is going....

Obama needs to wake-up immediately out of whatever dream he is in and realize that "capitulation" is rapidly becoming the hallmark of his administration.

Health Care, Afghanistan, the Economy. That pretty much sums it up. And not one single administration proposal for any of it.

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:08 PM on 11/16/2009

The SNL skit was right on. Obama has had time now. He needs to make stands on the issues and become a leader bringing the country with him and not hoping for public consensus before making decisions. The decision on Afghanistan should be no new troops and bring home the ones that are there now. Use the money to increase border security and do more to prevent another 911.

I have a big problem with false advertising. Watch SNL video! Go to the article, but can't just click and watch. Thanks for nothing!

Why bother?
