Dear MoveOn member,
In 2005, Jamie Leigh Jones was working for a private contractor in Iraq when she was brutally gang-raped by coworkers.1 Four years later, Jamie is still being denied justice.

Jamie can't file U.S. criminal charges because the rape took place overseas, and a fine-print clause in her contract takes away her right to file a lawsuit in the U.S.2

Why? Because big corporations, led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, have worked for years to prevent workers from suing their employers in almost any circumstance, even sexual assault.3

The good news is that a bipartisan group in Congress is working to protect the rights of rape victims like Jamie. But, shockingly, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is fighting it.

They sent a letter to Congress saying that it would "set a dangerous precedent" to allow rape victims into court.4 The worst news? The Chamber has enough clout to tie up the bill for years, unless we fight back.

Clicking here will add your name to our petition telling the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to stop opposing the rights of rape victims:

Oh damn ! I read the article, but was disappointed to find that it was not the story I had hoped it would be. Pelosi is not shifting focus to her own unemployment. What a tease header that was :(

You might want to get some education while you're there. Study the political systems first.

At least they created those 30 jobs in the 15th Arizona Congressional District.

You know, the district that doesn't exist.

The last thing in this world Neo-Cons want is for Nancy Pelosi , Democrats or the President to fix the economy, That would ruin their chances of getting back in power.

Maybe Ms. Nancy should fix her flawed Health Care Bill first. Even the Red Chinese, our largest debt holder, are becoming worried about there US Debt Holdings!

Maybe Congress should also start paying attention to what is not happening in regulations of the banks and wall street and the continual funding of a bogus war.

Whatever happened to control of the purse strings?

Control of the purse strings went out the window in the 2nd half of the Clinton administration and became completely untied when W fought two wars...OFF THE BOOKS..on special supplements.
Let's re open some of those idle factories. We can make lots of "green" energy items...solar panels, parts for wind turbines and how about those light bulbs!!! Highly touted as a way to cut down carbon emission are flourescent bulbs....Guess where they are ALL MADE? Can you imagine how many jobs you can create just by opening light bulb plants??? With all our households, businesses, schools, hospitals, etc......we are talking billions of light bulbs!

Our President is in China and part of his talks with the Chinese leader is encouraging the Chinese to import more American goods. how can you export more if you don't make anything...

One has to ask:

When Pelosi focused on health care, she managed to cobble together a bill so fraught with compromise and bad ideas that it can never, ever pass. How, one wonders, will she take that fine leadership quality and apply it to completely wrecking any chance of recovering employment?

Politicians can monkey with all the gears and levers of power, but unless they get out of the way, there will never be a recovery. It is impossible (it cannot work) to insert Pelosi's philosophy into anything that will create jobs. She has never created a job, she has never wanted, she has no idea how business works.

It seems that whatever the government does, turns out to not benefit the people, but corporations.

After the health care fiasco, I'm not very hopeful about anything they do.

Pelosi is so out of touch, this should have been her first priority. Insurance is an afterthought for MOST people when they struggle to retain job/make money/put food on table etc etc.
