CHICAGO Sarah Palin said in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that it's heartbreaking to see the road that Levi Johnston, the father of her grandson, has taken and that the soon-to-be Playgirl model hasn't seen his baby in awhile.

In an episode that aired Monday, the two women also talked about the controversy surrounding Palin's possible appearance on the show last year and touched on whether the former Alaska governor planned to run for president in 2012.

Palin and Winfrey embraced as the one-time Republican vice presidential candidate walked onto the talk show stage. Palin's 413-page book, "Going Rogue," will be released Tuesday and she begins a book tour Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The new memoir doesn't mention Johnston, who has sparred repeatedly with his former mother-in-law-to-be. Johnston and Palin's daughter Bristol Palin are parents to son, Tripp.

When Winfrey asked about Johnston, Palin said she didn't think "a national television show is the place to discuss some of the things he's doing and saying."

But Palin went on to say she finds it "a bit heartbreaking to see the road that he is on right now" and that "it's not a healthy place to be."

Bristol Palin and her son live at Palin's home, she said, and have much family support.

"(Johnston's) quite busy with his media tours and he hasn't seen the baby for a while," Palin said. "But we will let that be the discussion between Bristol and Levi as they work out their relationship."

Palin also said Johnston remains a member of the family and that they can work out any troubles. She said she prays for him and that he has an "open invitation" to Thanksgiving dinner.

"He's a teenager," Palin said. "I don't think he realizes quite yet what it is that he is being handled and orchestrated around."

Winfrey began the interview by asking Palin if she felt snubbed at not getting an invitation to "The Oprah Winfrey Show" last year. Winfrey said she didn't have any candidates on her Chicago-based show during the campaign because of her support of President Barack Obama.

Palin said she didn't feel snubbed and told Winfrey, "No offense to you, but it wasn't the center of my universe."

Winfrey also asked Palin if she was thinking about running for president in 2012.

"It's not on my radar screen right now," Palin said.

In October 2008, Obama was asked what he was reading. He answered.

Palin was asked. She didn't/couldn't answer and was, apparently, insulted by the question.

Palin's handlers must have coached her like there was no tomorrow. At times, she actually appears capable of intelligent thought! They might have even got her to memorize the names of all Supreme Court Justices!

Also, NBC and Katie Couric could make a small fortune if their website started to sell 'The Perky One' Coffee Mugs, T-shirts,etc.

Maybe some company should start to produce 'Pray for Palin' T-shirts, in response to the loathsome, seditious 'Pray for Obama psalm 109:8' T's.

Having watched both interviews with Ms. Palin ( Oprah's and Walter's) I thought Palin came off as rather bright and reasonable.
Did she show any credentials for being politically intelligent? No. But she seemed like a regular person, raising her kids and giving her take on her run for VP.
Now, lets move the spotlight back to matters of importance, like Healthcare poverty, climate change, etc.

It's easy to see why Sarah had this conflict with Katie Couric. Katie was just doing her job, a concept that Sarah couldn't possibly understand.

I've never been a big Sarah Palin supporter. In fact, I laugh every time I watch Tina Fey portray her in SNL. And while I still hold the opinion that I will flee the United States if America were ever to have a lapse in judgment and vote her as President in 2012, I don't find her as unintelligent as I once did. I can understand her irritation with the media and their asking of questions like "What magazines or books do you read?". I think it is a little insulting. Did we ever ask President Obama that or Vice President Joe Biden? No. And maybe she should've just answered the question that was asked, but she did admit that she wishes she hadn't let her annoyance get the best of her. And I can only imagine her response if Oprah had asked that question again. "What books DO you read, Sarah?" Haha. I'm still not a big Sarah Palin supporter, but I don't think she's as bad as I used to think. Still, though. She can't run our country.

To answer your question, yes we do ask the President and Vice President what they are reading. I recall this question being posed many times during the campaign and --at that time-- the President was reading "Team of Rivals" about Lincoln's cabinet.

She was a complete unknown with a questionable education when she appeared in the Katie Couric interview. Katie asked appropriate questions. Obama was a Harvard graduate, and Biden had been in the Senate for a very long time. We needed to know about this person who had not served a full term as anything. And as it turned out, she didn't even finished her term as governor of Alaska.

Well summarized Rzan. Precisely the point.

She has received this attention because she sought to hold a position that could have positioned her as the most powerful person in the world.

Any sensible, reasonable and well intended humanitarian would be obligated to put this person to the test.

We have seen, past eight years, what happens when the most powerful country elects a, lovable but completely unqualified, person in a position of power.

And to think she is still aspiring to hold this position. This is the very same person who would turn against you and call you anti-American because you don't have the same views.

Bottom line, this person is wholly unqualified to hold any office closely related to the presidency.

This was a much better interview than the one the Kitten did. Can't say that I HAVE EVER liked the Kitten, until Obama came along she was looking pretty bad herself in the ratings. She lacks the ability to deliver, her voice is rather bland, doesn't have the right voice inflection needed to deliver what she's reading from the teleprompter or from the notes some ones put together for her. I agree with Sarah about the interview the Kitten did, it was a low baller and the Kitten delivered every pitch, low and outside. She was out to get Sarah, but on this one I do believe the Kitten, WILL NOT HAVE THE LAST WORD.

After the Oprah Interview wirh Sarah Palin, my friend remarked: "Sarah Palin is a cover without a book." Indeed.
It's frightening such a shallow individual became so famous so rapidl. and continues to milk that noteriety. Would this happen in Europe? Are we Americans this shallow and sensationalist- orientated as a nation? I , for one, find Palin a crashing bore without a real reflection in her head.
Oprah handled the Interview magnificantly. Oprah simply provided ample opportunity for Palin to display her boring, tedious, gorgeous, but thoughtless.non-reflective self. Also, as a former radio professional, I find her voice a constant irritation.
v Note: I am a female Independent voter old enough to dimly remember the Hoover Roosevelt election .
My friend also suggested a ticket for the 2012 campaign: Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber. Is that pair to govern us wisely (?) Of course Sarah would have to head the ticket. That is her nature
.

"Are we Americans this shallow and sensationalist- orientated as a nation?"

Simple answer is Yes.

My friend called last night to tell us that Larry King had "Joe the Plumber" - who is not Joe and not a Plumber - on his show to give his opinion on Sarah Palin.

Talk about milking ones 15 minutes of fame. John McCain not only lost the election but he introduced the nation to some other classic losers.

The problem for people who do unethical things is that they are then forced to lie about it afterwards. And once they start to lie it snowballs out of control. This woman is clearly lying most of the time. I don't believe a word of what she is saying. At this point she is obviously just trying to make sense of all of her own lies. It's embarresing to watch.

Something she's probably done all her life, too, since childhood. She has it down to a science; it's called psychopathic lying.
