Elisabeth Hasselbeck Plagiarism Lawsuit Tossed

BOSTON — A federal judge in Massachusetts has dismissed a lawsuit accusing television personality Elisabeth Hasselbeck of plagiarism.

A federal lawsuit accused the co-host of ABC's "The View" of lifting content from a book written by self-published Cape Cod author Susan Hassett on the digestive disorder celiac disease. Hasselbeck's book was called "The G-Free Diet: A Gluten-Free Survival Guide" and appeared on best-seller lists this year.

U.S. District Judge Joseph Tauro dismissed the lawsuit last week after Hassett's attorney declined to pursue it. The dismissal was first reported in the Boston Herald on Saturday.

Hassett lawyer Richard Cunha said Monday that while he still believes there were instances of plagiarism, he isn't sure they were egregious enough for his client to recover money damages.

Hasselbeck has called the allegations baseless.

It was one of the clearest cases of plagiarism, usually word-for-word. It's a shame the victim didn't pursue it. Hasselbeck should make a video with Prejean, Palin and Bachmann. On second thought, why not combine talents with professional plagiarist Ann Coulter?

I did think it was very contrive of her the other day when they had that Tv judge on there and her and EH were spouting off about how dangerous it would be to have the trial in NY. I really can't stand this woman, but have to side with her on this one. First, I don't see how anyone can have an "original" work when dealing with diets. And second, there were those magic words "self-published".

Let her continue to write books. Keep her busy. Get her off my TV.

Facts, like truth, don't belong to anyone, and I don't see how the recitation of facts can be considered plagiarism. When you dealing with an illness which can be improved with a proper diet, there are only so many different ways to convey information (facts). Even if said differently, it's going to sound the same because the facts are the same facts. It's like news. Something happens, it's reported as news, and all of a sudden some news agency claims it belongs to them and threaten to sue because someone else reported it? Bogus. (I've actually seen where this threat was made awhile ago.)
