LOS ANGELES — Pilot Chesley Sullenberger jokes that his heroic handling of a disabled jetliner brought him "rock star sex" in an interview for "NBC's People of the Year" TV special.

Sullenberger, who safely ditched a US Airways plane in New York's Hudson River after geese hit the engines, is among those interviewed by Matt Lauer for the Thanksgiving Day special.

Lauer asked Sullenberger and his wife, Laurie, whether his sudden celebrity helped or hurt their relationship.

"He doesn't know I'm gonna say this, but I had joked the other day that ... the hero sex really helps a 20-year-old marriage," Laurie Sullenberger said with a laugh, according to an NBC transcript.

"Rock star sex," Chesley Sullenberger chimed in.

Lauer also interviews Taylor Swift, Nadya Suleman, Susan Boyle and Kobe Bryant for the hour-long special airing 9 p.m. EST Thursday on NBC.

In Lauer's interview with Suleman, the California mother of octuplets denies receiving any public funding and also says that, contrary to reports, she isn't going to do a reality show with Jon Gosselin of "Jon & Kate Plus 8."

"I love that this happened, because this is a perfect example of what kind of erroneous beliefs are out there," Suleman said, saying the answer to whether it would happen "was a billion percent no."

Sorry, haters, but Sullenberger is the real thing.

Articulate, extremely well-informed, motivated, educated, physically fit and married to an extremely attractive woman - all the things you wish you were.

So give the guy a break. I'd trust my family's life under his care, no problem, and even though he's a Republican, I'd probably vote for him if he ever ran for public office, because I have heard him speak often enough to believe in his integrity.

How interesting! I commented that the *REAL* story here is what Captain Sullenberger has said, about pilots making such low salaries that they can barely survive without food stamps, and have to catch naps in airport lounges between flights while airline CEOs are raking in money hand over fist. And it fell into the bucket. Let's see if this repeat makes it through.

Ugh. This kind of ruins the experienced, classy hero thing for me.

Why must we get so close to our heroes that we can see their ingrown hairs? A little distance is a good thing.

Familiarity breeds contempt.

Actually, it IS true. Read the Vanity Fair article by William Langeweische - October issue, I think. Basically the Airbus landed itself, even on water, thanks to brilliant engineering by a sometimes discredited French engineer... However, Sully was given a world of credit for his cool, quick, brilliant decision-making in that he knew that a landing on the river was their best bet, and that any attempt to turn around, reach Newark, or land at Teeterboro would likely be a disaster. He had only about 30 seconds to "think it over" after the strike. He was wise enough to trust the on-board landing system - in powerless glide mode - and to realize that the heroic choice (to try to take control manually and head for land) was actually the fool's choice.

I think you didn't read the HP story of last week where Sully totally disagreed with that article.

this story is over.........can't we come up with more interesting coverage?

I completely agree.

And, I know he's a hero and he saved lives and is generally quite awesome. But, I have to say, for a guy who is supposedly so modest that he didn't want any praise for what he did, Sullenberger sure seems find his way to every talk show in town.

I think it is more like the media still wants to cover him than Sully craving attention. Also, I get sick of the media constantly chasing sleazeballs. I'd rather see more of a real hero like Sully.
