David Clowney's Twitter Trouble: Jets Player Allegedly Tells Fan To "Kill Himself"

UPDATE: The Associated Press is now reporting that David Clowney's Twitter account has been hacked.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - The New York Jets say wide receiver David Clowney's Twitter account has been hacked, and a series of expletive-filled tweets are not being written by him.

The Jets issued a statement Monday night alerting fans that a "rogue tweeter" was sending out vulgar messages under Clowney's account. Clowney, who has more than 6,700 followers, was not available for comment.

Clowney, a frequent poster, has had previous Twitter-related trouble. He was suspended by coach Rex Ryan for one game earlier in the season when he admitted posting that he was unhappy with his playing time in the team's game against New England in Week 2.

According to thejetsblog.com, Jets wide receiver David Clowney has tweeted himself into trouble. Again.

Clowney allegedly sent a direct message to Jets fan and Twitter user AlexL__ telling him to "kill himself" after the fan told him to "go win [and] shut up."

Alleged photographic evidence of the direct message appears below:

Last season Clowney got into trouble with coach Rex Ryan for using Twitter to complain about his lack of playing time. Ryan benched Clowney for a whole game as punishment.

While many NFL teams have frowned upon players tweeting, the Jets have stood apart by wholly supporting their athletes taking to the microblogging site.
