The most recent auction of art and furniture belonging to designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Berge has brought in $13.22 million, or 8.9 million euros, three times more than the amount estimated by Christie's.
Ninety-eight percent of the items had a buyer. Large amounts were paid for a pair of 19th century arm chairs, valued between 6,000-8,000 euros and sold for 241,000 euros, and an umbrella holder, valued at 300-500 euros, but sold for 109,000 euros. Several Hermes suitcases were sold for 29,800 euros and Fernand Leger's 1950 drawing, "Les travailleurs au repos" sold for 181,000 euros.
All of the proceeds will be donated to an AIDS research charity.
