Jindal

The Plum Line:

Does conservative Governor Bobby Jindal favor the $300 million in Federal money that could be heading his state's way, thanks to Senator Mary Landrieu's successful efforts to secure the cash in the health care bill? His office won't say.

To the best of our knowledge, Jindal has been publicly silent on whether he supports the money, ever since some on the right waged an aggressive attack on the funds, widely deriding the cash as the "Louisiana Purchase."

This isn't the first purchase. Anyone taking junior high American History knows about that one. It's not the second one either; and that one makes this so called "Louisiana Purchase" small potatoes. When Richard Leche was elected Governor of Louisiana in 1937, Roosevelt knew he had a strong ally in Louisiana, Long had been assassinated and Leche had shown immense loyalty to Roosevelt. In response to this new found loyalty in Louisiana, Federal money flowed into Louisiana and this was referred to in the Washington as the second Louisiana Purchase. It wasn't until Harvey G. Fields, Federal Prosecutor and former law partner of Huey Long's, took the preliminary case to the Attorney General in 1939 that the illegal skimming of federal Funds stopped. In the end, Leche and 200 others in Louisiana were indicted; one being the president of LSU. The President of LSU attempted suicide and failed but three others succeeded. Lech went to prison for five years however following Fields death he immediately contacted the family to say he held no hard feelings and felt that Fields was a man of the highest integrity and honor. Fields private political papers were recently found after being lost for 45 years. A book has just been released about the papers and Fields and is called "I Called Him Grand. The Lost Political Papers of Harvey G. Fields". Over 100 letters are published and names such as Long, Roosevelt, Farley, Darrow and Leche are found throughout the book.

Wo'ah, talk about bein' between a rock and a hard place. Jingle bells, bein' Repuke, cain't take credit for a Democrat Administration's bailout, he cain't try and fight the Loosianna people from getting the 300 mil, they'd use him for alligator food if he did and he shore cain't tell all the Repuke peeps in Congress how he has everthin' under Repuke control in Loosianna. I'd shore feel sorry for him if I was a Repuke, but I ain't.

What can the Barney Fyfe of Louisiana say about Democrat success? Perhaps what he should do is apologize to the people of New Orleans and Louisiana for the manner in which they were treated by George Bush 43 and Dick Cheney. The Republicans abandoned Louisiana. Jindal is a joke. Period.

I still do not see how any citizen of Louisiana can be a supporter of the Republican Party.

OK, I'll bite. What Democratic success? There's been so many I'm trying to differentiate on success from another.
The failed stimulus, stalled health care or cap and trade legislation, closing Gitmo, repeal of DADT, or are you referring to the success of the bankers on Wall Street? I'd agree the bail-out of the banks was a ringing success.....if you're a banker.

The Landrieu brand has much more political capital in Louisiana than the upstart Jindal brand. My guess, my opinion, is that Jindal has seen his career as a Louisiana politician flash before him. He is giving up a lot to be "one of the Republican boys". Hopefully, the voters in Louisiana have a long memory the next time he runs for any office.

He should have demanded to know why the Democrats refused to help the poor of Louisiana. And why Democrats only would help if Landrieu voted as the Democrat party bosses demanded. Why, Democrats didn't immediately provide assistance once they all agreed people in Louisiana are in need. But instead held the people of his state hostage to extract a vote out of their senator, Landrieu .

When did the 100 million get to be 3? And where in the constitution does it say that elected representatives should just rubber stamp anything the Congress or Senate wants without ensuring that the people who elected them get something out of the deal?

Jindal has lost all Conservative cred so there is not much of a future for him. Maybe in early -09 when the GOP wanted to attract blacks and "the brown" people.
Exhibit A: Michael Steel

We now know the GOP has given up on that farce and would rather see racial wars divide people and stick to their parties core principles. White/Right/Chicken-Hawks/Hypocrits.

I'm sure he'll reject the money soon enough. After all, Mowgli only needs "The Bare Necessities."

Exactly, he will blame the Democrats for forcing that nasty money on the poor and ravaged of his state. THE DEMOCRATS DID IT! will be his cry.

As one who had his home and community shattered by Hurricane Hugo, I have an idea as to what those folks in LA experienced. They do not need fools like Jindal in any position of leadership.

Jindal is just another GOP hypocrite, saying things that sound great to the brainless and then doing what is expedient. You need to follow up on this and hound the man into admitting his duplicity.

Come on you know Piyush as to bargain for that money too. 300 mill...Piyush is looking at that money as more he can waste on his pointless trips in North Louisiana. Can they impeach this f00l already. What a waste.
