BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (Associated Press) — A 38-year-old former Miss Argentina has died from complications after undergoing cosmetic surgery on her buttocks.

Solange Magnano, a mother of twins who won the crown in 1994, died of a pulmonary embolism Sunday after three days in critical condition following a gluteoplasty in Buenos Aires.

Close friend Roberto Piazza said the procedure involved injections and the liquid "went to her lungs and brain."

"A woman who had everything lost her life to have a slightly firmer behind," he said.

Magnano's burial Monday was shown on Argentine television.

Dr. Gonzalo Cortes y Tristan said she arrived at his hospital with an acute respiratory deficiency. Her condition deteriorated until she suffered the embolism.

The following report is in Spanish. The first minute contains several photos and videos of Magnano:

It is awful how the people of today must conform to a certain standard in order to be considered beautiful. When God created us, He created each one of us in a unique manner. We may not like our looks, but that is what He created and we must Thank Him each day for who and what we are. This was such a tragedy. We know that Kanye's mother, one of the late James Brown's wives, and others have suffered a similar fate. Then we have some entertainers that constantly have liposuction and nothing ever happens to them. But, then that's life...............and no one should ever subject their body to such pain for such a superficial reason.

Many in the movie industry actually consider these surgeries as investment to enhance their assets. I've also read of drug lords ordering their girlfriends to get these surgical enhancements.

Overall, this is quite sad. It's not a decent way to die.

Let's be serious now. Plastic Surgery is fine... terrible surgeons are not.

People sometimes fail to realize that any surgery is potentailly life threatening; this callls into question
the wisdom of elective/vanity surgery. It is tragic that so many women aspire to the airbrushed image of perfection we see in magazines and on film. Our character and intelligence create inner beauty that cannot be artificially created but our world values exterior beauty and youth more than anything else.

if all she wanted was a firmer butt, she could have had that in 3 months or less with exercise, this is ridiculous maybe most men could careless but I think all the fakery is not pretty, the fake hair and nails, the plastic boob jobs the lip injections most of these women look scary it needs to stop.

When I see obvious breast implants, my mind automatically superimposes the little blue bags on the woman's chest. Probably there should be one day a year where everyone wears their implants on the outside (ala Madonna's underwear circa 1980s).

I don't get how guys are so enamoured by obvious synthetics.

The main reason I'm afraid to have cosmetic surgery myself?
The shear humilation of dying from my own vanity.

My husband dated a woman with implants before we were married. He said the look and feel was horrible and he would never advise any woman to get the procedure done.

I second your motion: I'm too scared to die of my own vanity to have plastic surgery done. Plus, it's horribly expensive and I always think of other stuff I could be doing with the money.

So many books and so little time...

I think I'll stick to butt crunches and exercising in general than resort to surgery for firmer buns. Exercising takes effort but is far less risky.

You'd be surprised how many times these things go wrong. Not always with such a dramatic outcome, but there are a lot of people out there disfigured because of cosmetic surgery.

Now that's what I call junk in the trunk.

It is sad that her children will no longer see their mother but it is even worst that they have lost her due to cosmetic surgery. Another reminder on how dangerous it is. It was very important that she keep her image young and beautiful but it was not worth risking her life. Rest in peace Solange Magnano.

Most people do not realize that surgeries, unlike drugs, etc, do not have to pass any type of review by any professional body ...... ie., there are no restraints on surgeons, they can conceive of any kind of surgery and do it without approval by anybody ..... and the threat of bodily injury or death and lawsuits do not quench the thirst for money or the thirst for a return to "youth" .....

Is it just me or did the comment by her "close friend" sound disgustingly sarcastic

Idk..but in any case R.I.P. She was gorgeous

I don't know. I read it as being angry at the waste of such a promising life. Understandable.

What do you know? But still, Soulja boy, bigger does not always mean firmer.

She was the owner of a Modeling Agency so her image was vital. Plus, at age 38, you are considered old in Argentina. The only victims are her twin sons.

Dang.......all she had to do was a bunch of squats! She could have had a spectacular butt from that alone, but I guess that was too much effort?
