ImpreMedia:

Latino voters in the United States see health care reform as the most important priority for the country and a solid majority expresses support for universal health care that includes a public option.

These are among the findings of a poll of 1,000 registered Latino voters, conducted November 1-14 by Impremedia, Latino Decisions and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Center for Health Policy at the University of New Mexico, in the 21 states that have the largest Latino populations.

The poll is not a surprise. It seems a lot of people are looking for a government handout these days.

I know a guy(U.S.citizen) who just spent about 150$ to register as a landed immigrant in Mexico, for the sole purpose of then being elligible to pay 300$ a year for Mexico's national health insurance plan.
He will get fully paid medical ,dental and eye care and he only has to spend one day a year in Mexico.
This is a true story.

It would be interesting to know if the surveyed were the relatively FEW who would pay for the subsidy, or the absolutely MANY who will receive the subsidy.

Crazy country it is, that treats corporations as persons and people as aliens, that successfully convinces half its people that health care is not in their own (or anyone else') best interest. Somos la gente y estamos aqui. Es nuestro pais tambien. A huevo!
03:08 PM on 12/02/2009
Health care should be in everyone's best interest, passing the costs onto other people shouldn't.

If I looked like that, I would make health care a priority too. So much for personal responsibility.

So Latinos want yet another government benefit that the rest of us have to pay for? Can we build the darn fence yet?
11:01 AM on 12/01/2009
Sorry, ZenDiagram, but you misunderstood what the words said. This article surveyed Americans whose ancestry is Latin American. These voters, as a group, want universal health care for all American citizens. At some point, there will probably be a similar article reporting on a survey done with Americans whose ancestry is the same as yours, and I suspect the results will be the same. Hope this clears up any confusion you might have. Hopefully, we can get more pictures, so it will be easier for you to participate in a productive way.

In Chicago there is a HUGE population of Polish immigrants. As well as Russian, Czech, Ukranian, etc. Large representation of central europe throughout Chicago. And there has been for generations.

You don't see Polish gangs running the streets or killing one another. There are criminals amongst them no doubt. But, their neighborhoods are clean, crime is low, education is firmly enforced, and the parents (1st generation) work some of the most difficult job(s) to give their kids a better life. Usually cleaners, janitors, contractors, housemaids, nanny's.

Most Polish kids must attend Polish school on Saturday. If the parents want them to continue knowing their native language they do it Secondary to English. WHAT A CONCEPT!

By the 2nd generation the kids are assimilated into society, while maintaining many of their european customs.

The Latino's could learn a great deal about assimilation.

What makes you think we are such a great culture that others should assimilate into it?
10:40 AM on 12/01/2009
The fact that we can't seem to keep the riff-raff out? I'm not in a real rush to move to Mexico, after all.

They "voted" their interest in the promise of this culture. They did so with their feet.

Now, accept the responsibilities that come with it. Maintain your own heritage, to be sure, but there is an American culture that has produced the nation ALL immigrants have sought.
06:11 PM on 12/01/2009
Assimilation? Sure looks like you have MUCH to learn. I am American and Latino and do not believe in assimilation. I am proud of who I am and I don't want to become "YOU."

If they aren't happy about Health Care reform being defeated (which it will be) they are going to be in for a shock when Obama and Pelosi try to pass Amnesty for illegals.

HR is necessary, but the politicians have turned realistic reform into a nightmare. From BOTH parties. Now its a complete mess and doomed to failure.

When they push for Amnesty virtually every American of any political party, race, income, etc., will voice opposition to it. Just like we are seeing with this Afghanistan policy that Obama and Congress are pursuing.

These fat people are also contributing greatly to climate change, they should pay higher taxes since they cost us so much in health care and climate.
12:26 AM on 12/01/2009
That makes sense. Come here illegally and then try and take from the hard working tax payer of the USA.

The minute an obese persons enters the healthcare system with no insurance the cost is passed on to you. That's part of the reason we need reform. A friend of mine had surgery without insurance. The costs was $5000. She paid $500. Taxpayers paid the rest. I don't know why people who oppose reform don't "get that".
01:22 AM on 12/01/2009
They will still cost us lots of money to think other wise is to deny reality.

The Rethugs would spin that as an attempt by the "Big Bad Gubment" to control their lives and that "de@th p@nels" are being assembled to rid the country of overweight people. Then they'll all panic and watch Faux Entertainment for confirmation of that nonsense while Palin sits in AK on her "filtered" Facebook page to support the "silliness".

If diet and weight really impacted health care costs the way you think, costs would be skyrocketing in Europe, but they are not. Public health care in other industrialized nations costs $3,000 LESS per person per year than private health care in the US.

You think the German sausages and beer are driving up their costs? No.

You think French cream sauces and wine are driving up their costs? No.

In the US, a mix of socialized medicine and single payer health care in Federal Prisons cost $4,400 per year per prisoner. That is $3,000 a year less than it costs for the rest of us. And prisoners are an extremely high risk group, and well, too often non-compliant patients.

And you think the French don't smoke? They do.

The US leads the world in smoking cessation and yet our costs are highest in the world.

You "blame the victim" Republican talking point plays well to the bias of others but does not pass any logical scrutiny.
10:55 PM on 11/30/2009
Well of course they are all for it. None of them expect to be the ones getting fleeced to pay for it

Oh you're so funny! I suppose you think 'you' and 'people like you' are the only ones who pay taxes? That make-believe $250,000 you convinced yourself of making annually will not get taxed, don't worry about it.... the government doesn't take Monopoly money.

How can the 30% in the dwindling Republican Party members think their taxes support the other 70% of people in this country. I'm not even sure you guys have 30%. I guess the 45 years I worked and paid taxes is insignificant. That's why you people aren't going to make the gains you''re counting on in 2010 because this country consist of more than the "so called Christian Right hypocrites"

Last poll I saw they were under 20%.

The funny thing is folks like Irishman40 are probably not wealthy and have never paid anything for anyone else. They are just the brainwashed servants of the elites.

The most probable thing is that he makes less than $250,000 and will probably benefit financially from Obama's policies.

And I'm sure the English were just as insulting about having to "support" his Irish ancestors, but he has learned nothing from that oppression.

The facts are the actually wealthy could not amass their wealth without poor and working people. You need customers and the poor are great consumers, they spend all their money. You need employees and suppliers.

I tell the wealthy to go to an island, cut off from all society, and try to build "wealth" alone. Even if they have gold, what will it be worth outside the context of society? Nothing.
