'True Blood' Fans Unite and Bite For Virtual Fundraiser

With the recent release of "New Moon," it's all the "Twilight" diehard fans who've gotten the attention with their undying acts of devotion. But fans of the HBO vampire phenomenon "True Blood" are sinking their teeth in with Bites for Blood, a virtual blood drive fundraiser that will unfold on Twitter with backing from HBO. If the vial that tallies all the "drops" of support reaches 500K, HBO will donate $10,000 to the Red Cross.

Starting tonight at 9 p.m. CDT, fans can unleash their lust and "kiss" and "bite" their favorite characters via Twitter by selecting their favorite human or vampire's badge here.

Each tweet constitutes a "drop" of blood and support, and the page will remain open until Sunday, December 5th, at 9 p.m. CDT. Beyond being a virtual kissing and biting online booth, the initiative aims to bring more attention to the Red Cross and direct contributions that are needed by local chapters. Who knew vampires could be so philanthropic?

If you're interested in donating blood in "true" life, contact your local Red Cross chapter.
