http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/dec/07/greece-protests

Oh look, the Brits are reporting on Greek protests today. They must be war mongers getting ready to invade. Equating reporting on protests as war mongering is strange to say the least.

The ironic part about the haters who come and post on the Huff Po is that the very Americans that stopped war with Iran post here. Had we not fought the Neo-Cons during the Bush years or had we not fought hard to elect Obama, a President John McCain would have bombed Iran by now.

Lashing out at Americans indiscriminately serves no real purpose. All that it really accomplishes is to make Americans angry and afraid, which is what the Neo-Cons need to get back in power and do more damage around the globe.

If you really want to lash out at the Americans who support war mongering, here is a list of sites.

Fox News
Sean Hannity
Bill O’Reilly
Rush Limbaugh
Glenn Beck
Ann Coulter
Michelle Malkin
The American Enterprise Institute (home of the Neo-Cons)
The Heritage Foundation
The CATO Institute
Halliburton

I’m sure other liberal posters who helped prevented war with Iran can name a few other sites.

Oh and you want to abandon Afghanistan where women were beheaded for years? You say it's their business and we must get out of Iraq (which we should have never been there in the first place) an Afghanistan. So why are you getting involved with Iran? What do you plan to do? Pray for the mothers? Boycott? I can give you a list of countries you should boycott including your own for not providing healthCARE resulting in many American deaths each year!

Mind your own business!

This thing really isn't going away. If this stays consistent we may very well see regime change in the next 20 years, or atleast a huge about face in Iranian foriegn and demostic policies. Gotta applaud the Iranian opposition here, if liberals in America had even half the courage of Iranian progressives we very well could have seen Bush impeached the second he stole the 2000 election.
08:02 AM on 12/07/2009
I hope it happens a lot faster than that!

After protests in 1978 there was apparently long periods of surface calm before the final uprisings to overthrow the Shah in 1979.

Unfortunately the current regime know all the mistakes the Shah made and they seem a lot more brutal then he ever was in putting down dissent.

Would hope so too, but when you look at the revolution that overthrew the Iranian Monarchy its clear that it was a continuious movement that reached back to the Constitutional Revoulution in 1902, the groups that were getting disenfranchised started collecting from that point until it reached its creshendo in 1979. Dead on with the second point. Many people don't acknowledge this, but both Carter and Kennedy had actually pushed for the Shah to clean up his human rights record. The White Revolution was undertaken at the urging of Kennedy,it didn't work but atleast he was trying. To placate those two Administrations the Shah atleast had to restrain somewhat on the crackdowns to keep his credit and arms deals with the U.S. The current regime does not have that limitation (Coughlin 2009).

Never a good political ploy to lock up moms - in any culture.

This may be a hopeful indication that the puppet Ahmadinejad and the mullahs that pull his strings are seriously losing control. Maybe there is some HOPE for meaningful CHANGE in that part of the world.

Iran continues to show the Great Satan just how morally superior they are, by arresting mothers. I never understood how adopting anti-democratic autocratic measures ever served as any sort of revenage against the US. Hurting your own people doesn't amount to getting back at the US. The oil men and CIA agents that supported the Shah are long gone.

This thread proves yet again why its important for the Huffington Post to show the location of posters. We have posters taking cheap shots at each other, as well as the US.

If you hate Americans that much why do you spend so much time among us on the Huffington Post?

Some people just get so full of the idea that America is some kind of imperialist monster and that all nations hostile to it MUST be right because they are the eternal victims, its the extreamism of the left. For some reason extreamist on both sides find reasons to destroy this country; the right with the SCARY government is comming to get you. And the left with the reasoning that this FASCIST IMPERIALIST system must be overthrown for the benifit of all mankind. I would simply say there is alot of arrogance with anyone too wrapped up in politics, they're all convinced they're right. Its become something of a pet peeve for me

Atheism is peace because Stalin and Mao killed millions.
Xianity is peace because millions died serving church and state.
Judaism is peace because of the stomping on innocent Palestinians.
Hinduism is peace because of the mistreatment of Muslims and centuries of the caste system.

Now that we can be chauvinistic to the vast majority of faiths, can we get back to the topic?

A playbook out of the shah's regime. In advance, yes the reporter spoke on anonymity. That will cast doubts in many. Truly, such sources can go either way. An excuse to print what you want, under the pretext that they feel themselves in danger, or, the actual threat to their freedom (if not safety) if their name is seen in said print. Given cases - documented in the Iranian media and by the Iranian government's show-trials themselves - and the history the hard-line governments have with speech critical of the government - I'll let the reader use their own judgment. Not saying that rules out the former, just weigh the circumstances, please, before reflexively crying media foul.

"Don’t believe what a government says if that government is the only entity that has the right of expression."

I also thought this hit the nail on the head:

“They are asking us to forget about the election results as though people are concerned only about the elections,” he said. “How can we make them understand that this is not the issue? It is not about who the president is or is not; the issue is that they have sold out a great nation.”

- Mir-Hossein Mousavi (Zionist Color revolution agent-in-Chief, apparently)

Might not be a great example. Pinochet was never overthown or killed (he damn well should have been). Oppression kept him in power for a very long time.

Just because people do not agree with the way an election was run does not mean that they support a war in Iran. For one, I could care less and see Iran as no more dangerous than Cuba or Venezuela. All three countries love talking, all three pick on safe targets like American hegemony, and all three recognize that the distraction is needed to quell domestic pressure by confusing the public with the real threat (kind of like what happened here over the past 9 years).

Do I care who runs Iran? Not particularly, neither of these men are democratic in their perspective. That being said, if you wish to call yourself a democracy, you at least have to run through the motions.
12:24 AM on 12/07/2009
You probably said the same thing before the bombs started falling on Iraq. You muricans are gungho warmongers, you learn slowly if at all.

Might want to educate yourself about the opposition as they've consistently been anti US intervention and against bombing runs. As sanctions would mainly give the lovely people in charge more power, they're also against those as well. This is hardly a choice between US and IRI or a choice of war or peace.

It's IRI that has consistently demonized itself htis article being but one small example.
