The basketball team at Gustavus Adolphus College, a liberal arts college in St. Peter, Minn., faced off against Concordia College of Moorhead, Minn on Saturday. The game was tied at 54 with 0.8 seconds remaining in overtime when Gusties guard Dan Schmidtknecht in-bounded the ball halfway down the court to junior Phil Wirtjes. Wirtjes rotated towards the basket and quickly heaved a last-second shot before time expired.
The miracle shot sailed straight through the net, giving Gustavus Adolphus a 57-54 win. According to the college's web site, Wirtjes' buzzer beater was a 50-foot shot, giving the Gusties their 18th straight win against Concordia at Gus Young Court.
