Spotted Lake: The Most Psychedelic Lake on Earth (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

First Posted: 3/18/10 Updated: 5/25/11

You're not tripping: the colorful spots found in The Spotted Lake in British Columbia are not the result of psychedelic drugs but mineral deposits found in the lake. The lake contains some of the highest concentrations of magnesium sulfate, calcium and sodium sulphates in the world, along with small amounts of silver and titanium. In the summer, the water evaporates and the minerals crystallize, forming the beautiful patterns on the lake's surface.

The lake was considered a sacred site by the Native Americans who lived in the region and the water was thought to have therapeutic properties. Photo and video of the lake below.

Seems like a really interesting lake, but seriously - this is the best video that could be found on the subject? Good God, man. I think I must of heard "like" and "probably" about a hundred times! I weep for the future....

Painful wasn't it? Can you imagine hearing that every day? That body of water is now known as the Spotted Like..

Have been to this lake a few years ago.

It is actually a good thing it is located on private property and not open to tourist who may destroy this unique site....

But, if you have been there, you must agree that anyone traveling there based on this hyped description and the photo-shopped top photo - sorry folks, it ain't that blue at all! - is going to be seriously disappointed. Seriously. The lower photo is the real world, and that's as close as you get - as viewed from the side of a highway. If you want that to be psychedelic, bring plenty of drugs.

What I will say it this is a unique phenomenon and interesting. The physical appearance, from what I have been told by locals, does change periodically.....If you want to demean this site by attacking the film maker you are a sad and foolish person. Have you been there?

Dude's stoned to the Bejesus Belt.

As far as the lake goes, it's not as psychedelic as Jellyfish Lake in Micronesia...

When I was there a few years ago you couldn't get any closer to the lake because it was on tribal land with a "no trespassing" sign.

I grew up on the reservation in Cherokee NC. I am white. There was no racial strife then. Only when we started watching TV. You Know? when I was a kid there? we had 2 stations. there were no problems. Now? cable and satellite is there. I say boycott WalMart. Cable. Satellite. Media.

Go and visit your neighbor.

That sucks if you want to take a closer look, but that wasn't there it would probably be littered with beer bottles and fast food wrappers.

Like, if you're going to put a video like this one, like on YouTube. At least write a voice over script and read it , like, you know? Like that way you'll keep people's attention and they won't, like turn it off really fast.
Like I did.

Well, the Mima Mounds are just to the South of BC in Washington State. Those are pretty cool, too. And, they are on publicly-owned land, so it he wants to go get a closer look, he's more than welcome too.

Most psychedelic lake on earth? I dunno....catchy headline tho.
07:43 PM on 12/08/2009
Lame video, what was the point? Staring at a long distance shot of a lake? WTF?
07:39 PM on 12/08/2009
If this guy would've took the time he spent talking to just walk over to the lake he would've gotten a far better picture than the pointless one he took.
