What's Your Reaction?

MTV knew it was courting controversy with its new reality show Jersey Shore, which stars eight of the "hottest, tannest, craziest Guidos" who live and party together for a summer, but a whole new level of criticism is sure to come when they air the epsiode in which one of the stars, Snookie, gets punched in the face by a random man at a bar. (Click HERE for more information on the assailant, a New York gym teacher.)

At the end of the episode tonight MTV shows a teaser clip of Snookie getting punched out and then lying on the floor of the bar. The next shot is of a man in handcuffs being escorted to a police car.

MTV is attempting to defuse the growing storm by showing an anti-violence PSA after next week's episode.

do you idiots actually watch this trash? the only reason I even know about this show is I saw a clip of it on the news. what has happened to our society? is this what you want your kids growing up to be? do you believe this is even reality? i am always amazed at how many people are willing to make permament fools out of themselves for temporary cash.

It's got to be the most stupidist reality show on TV, and they're all bad...I think it's inappropriate that MTV put that show on the air period...

I thought this was marketted as a "REALity" show? Well, if she REALLY got punched in the face, why wouldn't you show it? Can't call yourself a "reality" show and not show what really happened...
Trent Reznorr   12:37 AM on 1/06/2010
You can televise gun violence, sex scenes, animal abuse, in fact most contribute to animal abuse every day of their life, BUT you cant show a girl get punched in the face??? wow.

"Running ones mouth" is by no means justification for a physical altercation between two men. The fact that we're talking about a woman here -- regardless of the negative stigma attached to this girl because of the show -- makes it 100 times worse. A 200 pound man should NEVER lay a hand on a woman, especially one who is much smaller than him. We all saw how far he sent her flying. That is just uncalled for. I hope the courts don't treat this situation lightly. Who knows, perhaps this incident will prevent this guy from someday punching his future girlfriend or even wife in the face.

As a woman, I would have to disagree. It was wrong to hit her regardless of whether or not she is a man or a woman, period; however, to say that it is 100 times worse to hit a woman than a man and that a man should NEVER lay a hand on a woman is just plain ridiculous.

I have witnessed in person several times cases in which a woman assaults a man, and the bystanders do not do anything to stop it. Yet, had the situation been reversed, the guy would have been locked up. Even on shows like Divorce Court, some women admit to striking their husbands (one admitted to biting her husband TWICE) and yet the judge says nothing in response. Have to love the hypocrisy, huh? But, I digress...

It was absolutely wrong for the man to hit that woman, not because of the fact that she is a woman, but because of the fact that she is another human being that had done nothing to him in the first place.
serenitsa   10:19 PM on 1/03/2010
Disagree? That's exactly what I was getting at. It's wrong to assault another human being period, but he fact that it was a woman assaulted by a man does make it worse because she can't physically hold up to it the way a man can.
FlimFlam69   01:03 AM on 1/07/2010
Now if it was a 199 pound man, that might be a different story...
Tannum   09:18 AM on 1/26/2010
That's the a problem though many women now take that to far. Many like to trash talk behind the curtain of your a guy you cant hit me so I will say what ever I want and you cant do anything about it. That is total bull. Again sorry ladies but some of you really know how to push buttons hard and walking away at times just isn't going to happen. Why should the guy have a ruined night cause some woman decides hey I am going to trash talk this guy cause he wont do anything but take it.

That was HILARIOUS! I must have watched it about 30 times. Yes he is wrong for hitting her, but c'mon, ya can't say it wasn't funny!

Although I wonder if her hit her to knock some of the spray tan off of her. Or her Ed Hardy.

It wasn't funny.

But I can't say I wouldn't have done a job on him after he did that. He would've been carried out of there with a chair stickin' out of his ear. He's a dirtbag and doesn't deserve any kind of humane treatment. She didn't do anything to him. In fact, what she said wasn't a tenth of what he deserved BEFORE he hit her.

I posted a blog entry on the discrepancy between how MTV treated this incident and the actual case of domestic violence that appeared on the show Teen Mom. I also commented a bit on the surprising reactions both incidents have received. Check it out: http://jayhammers.blogspot.com/2009/12/mtvs-domestic-violence-double-standard.html

I don't understand the amount of people coming on here and saying that she somehow deserved it.... she confronted a dude that was STEALING THEIR drinks, and instead of being like, oh sorry, or even yelling back, he responds by socking a chick? No, there's no justification for this.

Thank you! Finally an intelligent comment!

Telling a person they're ugly and to stay away isn't justification for hitting them. I don't understand why people are resistant to a simple "I'm sorry, my bad". I'm horrified at some of these comments like "she deserved it for running her big effing mouth". wtf! Girl insults guy's ego and he hits her? Sad. Inappropriate. People should be allowed to stand up for themselves without physical violence.

Just, thank you so much for your comment. I wish more people thought like you. It depresses me that they don't.

She got what she deserved... punching a girl is not too cool, but hey man, maybe she'll think about running her bfm next time.

Live by the Snookie-Punch, die by the Snookie-Punch. "Snookie-Punch" is my favorite new combat move since "Sparta-Kick".

look that guy won't spend a minute in jail. first off, its a misdemeanour. second, its most likely a first offence. he'll be on probation and have to go to an anger management class.

plus she was rude to him. which is a mitigating factor. the judge or even the DA might throw this out because there are better things that can be taken care of.
