Archaeologists Claim They've Found Lost City Of Atlantis (VIDEO)

First Posted: 3/18/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Undersea archaeologists have found the ruins of an ancient city on the bottom of the Caribbean Sea, and researchers claim that it is the fabled and lost city of Atlantis. The satellite photos do show something that could be a city, and the researchers believe that what they've found would predate the pyramids of Egypt. Indeed they claim to be able to make out a pyramid and other city-like structures from the satellite photos.

The archaeologists have so far refused to divulge their identities or the location in the Caribbean. They say they are raising money for an expedition to confirm their findings.

What makes me think it is Atlantis?? Im right here so you can ask me now! well i will tell you the only documents pointing anywere for this madder is Plato's story. It the best discription is states on one side is americas one side is spain and just beehond the pillars of Hercules. figure it out now. The only large land mass submerged in this area is the Great Meteor table Mount. And' It even matches an image that he also published a map fron egypt. they are almost identical looking from north to south. so is it fair to call me Nuts and i dont know what im talking about. I did not pick this spot randomly, I studied all the history i could read on the subject, And if i could afford it I would go there my Damn self until someone researches it further to prove to me this is not the location im going to continue to believe that it out there waiting to be found right were it supposed to be

I don't think we'll be over 69k mi under the water before space travel becomes a reality. Or that anything resembling a sentient life form could live in such cold and pressure.

As for Atlantis, maybe or not. Either way, unless they had fusion power and or space faring vessels, I doubt the utility of anything they might discover.

Does anyone know who these "archeologists" really are? As far as I'm aware no archeologist takes the story of Atlantis any more seriously than stories about ancient astronauts.

Another group claims to have found Atlantis. Maybe they'll find Hoffa there, too.

Are you telling me that with all the high-res satellite mapping of the Earth, that NASA and the government have never seen this thing under water? I think it's most likely an underwater alien base.

I thought Atlantis was here:

So, What does this mean? The beginnings of civilization started out in the Carabbean?

Lol, exactly.

No; an advanced civilization existed in the Caribbean.

I am referring to the beginning of the world's civilization because it is often claimed that it started out in Egypt.

You can see a sample of sensor noise in the waters around Manhattan here: http://www.eurimage.com/tmp/Atlantis_NY.jpg

Mystery solved.

I work with satellite imagery and these patterns appear where the image is very low contrast (I could show you an example from the waters around Manhattan). The patterns are produced by noise in the sensor, exacerbated by compression/expansion and contrast stretching during post-processing. I actually spend quite a lot of time trying to get rid of them...

They are not to be confused with jpeg compression artifacts, which are not as linear/orthogonal. I've only seen these patterns from satellites using pushbroom-type scanning sensors.

You get them in imagery from Mars, too, and you can imagine the hoo-ha that that creates...

@ BeJesus This link to Google Maps you published is the site off Africa that was debunked by Google in February. Here is a site in the Carribeans that looks exactly like these new images: http://bit.ly/Atlantis_Caribean

Good. Now the history/discovery channels can stop showing reruns about the quasi science of looking for Atlantis. Just get Nessy and Sasquatch off the list and we can rid the airwaves of the altogether

This Google image is not in the Caribbean, it's south of the Azores, pretty much right where Plato claimed it was. If you move the focus to the north, you'll find Sao Miguel Is. and a lot of strange looking undersea structures very similar to what he described in his writings.

Even though it might just be a myth, I am delighted to be taken away from Lieberman, Palin, Health Reform, Fat Cats, Reid, Pelossi the Repugs and the rest of the swamp that surrounds us all day long.

Be it true, or false, it is a welcome escape.

Hm. That looks like circuit board etchings photoshopped onto an ocean floor. How can something that big and that close to the surface not have been spotted by now with all the satellites we've been scanning the Earth's surface with? And even if it is an ancient city, what makes them think it's Atlantis? This just doesn't sit right...

You can see a similar pattern in the seafloor off the coast of Ireland.
