Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki and Houston Rockets big man Carl Landry were injured in a gruesome collision in their game tonight. Landy cracked five teeth, received a foul and was knocked out of the game. Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports tweeted that the Mavericks are "EXTREMELY worried about dirks deep cut with broken teeth in it."

The incident occurred early in the second quarter when the Mavericks led 27-26. Nowitzki was driving to the hoop when he collided with Landry. The Maverick ended up with "pieces of two teeth imbedded in [his] right elbow," according to ESPN's Marc Stein, who adds that 30 minutes were spent cleaning the wound. Scroll down for video.

I don't know about Landry, but I was surprised recently to learn not all NBA players wear mouthguards. Shaq, on the other hand, wears a new-age mouthguard that costs about as much as a small car.

Why do humans enjoy watching car crashes, compound fractures, and other various forms of destruction? I don't get it...

Landry is set, outside of the restricted area, his feet planted, his hands down, clearly in position to take the charge. Too bad he was called for a foul for hitting Dirk's flying elbow with his face. Bad call.

The NBA is fixed. Superstars get the calls every time, no matter what. This is as real as professional wrestling.

So true. Kobe gets away with murder and the NBA feels he best represents the league. I don't think he has as many fans who love him as hate him.

Good thing he's rich cause a cosmetic dentist is only a call away.

I hate that move. My older brother cracked one of my teeth just like that. I hate that move, just foul the guy next time, don't stand with your head right where he's going with his right elbow.

Also, from the offensive perspective, where's your left hand? Where's your stop and pop jump shot? Oh well, these things happen. Luckily they can afford the best dental care. I'm not at all worried about the "boo boo" on Dirk's elbow.

Now Carl Landry is in the same boat with Silvio Berlusconi - he'll need those titanium anchors, I suppose.

That happened so fast I had to replay the collision several times to see exactly what happened. Both players were hurt in this accident. I am a little surprised that the officials gave Landy a foul for having his head in the wrong place as Nowitzk elbowed him in the mouth while charging. Some things (like this) are totally unpredictable.

Ouch! Sucks for both of them!
