I remember specifically that after Clueless Murphy started palling around with Winona Ryder and it was Ryder who gave her her "makeover tips": take drugs to lose a lot of weight and make your skin pale. Ryder helped her transform her in a matter of months. She was a great friend to have.

Perhaps if she would have drawn 10% of the interest when she was alive as she's drawing in death, she'd still be alive...

A rather odd comment. How is the American public supposed to be responsible for the health and well being of a celebrity, and I wouldn't wish her any harm, but she and her family have to be the ones that take care of her. I can't make her eat a decent meal.

YLS I understand exactly what you are saying and you are right. It is so easy to blame the industry but if you read the HuffPost "Entertainment" blogs, and elsewhere, we know the harsh criticism that an "overweight" celebrity gets from the fans every bit as much as from the media, tabloid and MSM alike.

There's overweight like Kirstie Ailey and it's no wonder she draws comments. But Murphy was not really overweight. I read far more comments from fans when someone gets too skinny.

I really like her as an actress.... she just seemed like such a fun person.

I watched Uptown Girls in honor of her last night... (my fav movie with her)

RIP Brittany

She was far too skinny for her body type. He diet probably caused her heart to weaken as well. We'll see what the docs say.

Weight loss can actually be a symptom of heart problems, not just a cause - why are people so quick to judge?

As someone who works in cardiology, I can tell you it would be extremely unlikely that at age 32 she would not have been aware of a heart condition and it would not have been treated. The kinds of conditions that might kill someone suddenly would not involve vomiting for days beforehand. It is an unfortunate fact that Hollywood tempts people in ways that are unhealthy including poor body images that produce eating disorders, and in her case, apparently, there was some plastic surgery that got her addicted to painkillers. It would be so much better if actors weren't expected to look in a specifically perfect way that is basically unattainable without surgery and extreme measures. Can't we all just be who we are? There's always makeup and clothes that can make the necessary looks for a character in a movie. It would be so much healthier for everyone.

Something's fishy. The husband too , had a heart attack scare on a plane, last month medics rushed him to the same hospital that she was taken to.

yaaaa she was skinny. Thats prob why she died
09:32 AM on 12/21/2009
She got so much flack for being a bit heavy (by movie standards), that I'm sure the pressure to remain thin is probably an underlining cause. My heart goes out to the family.

In a way, if it was anoerexia-connected, then it's a shame it didn't happen more often. That's a horrible thing to say but perhaps the only way that women would finally stop dieting themselves to shells just to be thin and 'acceptable'.
The basic medical info is - your body needs energy to keep going. It will take it from the food you eat - any extra will be 'laid down' as fat, and saved for times when food is not so plentiful. If it doesn't get enough nutrients through food, and it has consumed all the fat, then it will start on muscle. Your heart is a muscle. Damage through extreme dieting is not uncommon.
Really, really tragic loss. I hope it was just 'natural' - that there was an underlying heart condition that had never been picked up - but sadly, I fear there won't have been.
Chalk another one up to the Hollywood dream machine.

Heart attacks are a consequence of an underlying condition. I would bet in this case, it is anorexia. So sad that actresses feel such pressure. Of course, whenever an actress puts on some weight (ie Jessica Simpson), we're the first to blast them.

She had diabetes - heart attacks in diabetes sufferers happen.

Anything else is conjecture at this point.

She was asthmatic, too. It bugs me when everyone leaps straight to anorexia.

Actually, it's all conjecture, whether it was diabetes, asthma, or anorexia, until we get the results of the autopsy. It is not an unreasonable speculation to think it could have been anorexia. With her having become so skinny, that makes it a possibility as well as the other conditions.

I was thinking the same thing.
Ms. Murphy is following in the sad footsteps of Karen Carpenter.

That is the skinniest I've ever seen her. Hope it
wasn't anorexia. This is sad.
