French Schoolgirls Don Miniskirts In Dress Code Revolt

First Posted: 3/18/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Miniskirt

French youth across the country are rebelling against various new school dress codes that ban low-slung trousers, short garments and piercings, and even holes in trousers and garments above the knee.

At Lycee Geoffroy-Saint-Hilaire in Essonne, south of Paris, 300 of the 2,100 students came to school wearing short shorts or mini-skirts. And at Lycee Condorcet d'Arcachon in Gironde, 200 students protested in the streets. One student said, "We're at school, we don't want to feel like we are in a prison," according to the Independent UK.

Lycee Saint-Jean-Hulst in Versailles, has taken a different approach in dealing with sartorial rebels. Girls wearing short skirts are given overalls to change into, and boys sporting saggy pants are lent a pair of suspenders.

Every school ought to have a day when everyone dresses as though they live in a certain era. There should be a day for Roman, Medieval, '60s, etc. Multiple Halloweens!

This is nothing. There's more skin at a typical American High School. Seriously, I think the repressive Muslim dress code is spilling out to greater French sensibilities. I say, just let the kids be themselves and sort it all out themselves. If you just repress it, you'll get more rebellion.

How exactly is the "repressive Muslim dress code" affecting greater French sensibilities? You do realize that it is not MUSLIM CLERICS who have banned mini skirts or head scarves (The french government has banned muslim women from wearing the headscarf in schools ); its the FRENCH government.
Yes let kids be themselves. Let them wear head scarves because they're muslim or mini skirts because its fashionable.

It's amusing how Americans always think it's "the Government"....
In France these dress codes are imposed by the schools.

Totally sloppy article. A storm in a teacup.
Why would they "rebel" in December when it's freezing cold in Paris?

A few clicks in Google show that one protest happened in September 2009, another one in September 2008, and that the Independent “reporter” basically (and sloppily) translated, cherry picked, and misinterpreted a Figaro article from November 5.

And to top it off, a pic of Miley Cyrus??

To those of you who are clamoring for pictures, here's a video of the “revolt” at the school in September:

And no better place to teach children about what to expect the rest of their lives.

These are not women; they are children and adolescents. You all lusting over them being in miniskirts are being a bit perverted right now...

When looking at pics with say - just a butt - you can't tell if that butt is 16 or 30 - just whether it's a nice one or not. Chill out.
