Endangered Species: Nine Animals That May Not Survive The Next Decade (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 03:55 PM ET

As we come to the end of decade, there have been amazing conservation efforts to help endangered species across the globe we can be proud of. However, there are many species that ares critically endangered and several of our most majestic creatures may not live to see the end of the next decade due to poaching, habitat destruction and climate change. We don't want to see the tiger, gorilla, or the panda go the way of the dodo! Check out these endangered creatures and let us know which you are the most concerned about for the coming decade.

Amur Leopard

The beautiful Amur Leopard is native to the Far East of Russia. Due to habitat loss from deforestation and poaching, the Amur Leopard is at an extremely high risk of extinction.
EcoWorldly reports that there are only about 135 left in the wild.

Look what we have done !!!

Beautiful.

This highlights a good point.

That while the earth and the most disrespectful animals on it, Homo Sapiens, will continue to live on through our artificial acceleration of its natural cleansing processes, a large amount of the animals that make our planet a beautiful and diverse place to live on, will not.

The natural changes of the past are not happening today. Humans are causing current changes.

you forgot our species. With global warming getting ready to drown our cities and crops, we will probably cease to exist in 20 years if we don't change our ways. We need to start listening to Al Gore and the other global warming scientists.

How can all you people blame the human race for these animals going extinct, when clearly it is natures fault. We needed the resources these animals either provided, or where using. Since we are the top of the food change nature has decided we should get them. It was nature who did not choose them to survive since those animals did not adapt/evolve to the changes in there ecosystem.

Not that it makes much of a difference in the long-run, but I'd like to give a shout-out of appreciation to Oklahoma City Zoo for its efforts at helping 'preservation'. The Pere David's deer there are amongst the few left in the world, and it is good to see efforts to try and maintain them so that one day they might 'run free' again. I am not a big fan of the 'zoo' concept overall, but OKC seems to be making efforts to be 'positive' at what it does with regards to 'making a difference' for endangered/'at-risk' animals.

I've lived a very active positive life full of discovery and hope. I am now approaching 72 and am in excellent health. But it is articles such as this that truly make me sad for the future of this planet. Beautiful creatures that have every right to live on this planet as we do are now facing extinction due to US! We talk about climate controls but what the world really needs is POPULATION CONTROL. There are simply too many humans on this planet. We use up our resources, polute our streams, soil and atmosphere...and we kill beautiful creatures for our own egos and mythological beliefs and encroach and destroy their habitat forcing them into extinction. Human "needs" and greed are rampant everywhere. Masses of people swarm cities and devastate the country side. Scientific examples have shown that rats crowded into small quarters result in fighting, starvation, psychological trama and death. Sounds like us, doesn't it? Can't we learn from these examples? The hordes of peole living everywhere are demanding their rights. What about the rights of the beautiful creatures that share this planet with us and are vital to the tapestry of life? Oh, I'm sad over the state of the world today, yet glad that I will not see the future as more and more humans take over and distroy our beautiful planet....all in the name of progress. My life-long optimism has been truly challenged in the face of current events.

DNA? Recreate the animals later? I know for a fact that the robots who will replace us won't go for THAT.

Don't you know anything.

Well with the MIllions that Gore is making off of his "green" tirade, maybe he can help and donate all his green to the cause

So like, just so you know, whatever wildlife expert you pulled off the street for this puff-piece doesn't apparently know that turtles are no longer considered "reptiles". just FYI

Yes we should be cooling coming out of an ice age. We should not have any extinctions at all, it's never happened before. We should combat Co2 because billions of years of asteroids and volcanoes didn't cause the Earth to evolve a defense against it. Plants don't use or become more plentiful with increased co2 and therefore can't regulate the air, so we have to cut emissions or else. Yes we should give up our rights and money to Gore and "scientists" who fudge data so they can lead us to their global ends. Obviously.

23 species go extinct everyday and 90% of all species on this Earth have gone extinct. And we had no impact on those. Look up george carlins take on saving the planet on youtube, it makes a lot of sense.

The difference is humans are now the cause of most extinctions.
