Eddie Money's Liberty Bowl Halftime Show Performance VIDEO: 'Two Tickets To Paradise'

First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:05 PM ET

Viewers watching the 2010 Liberty Bowl may have been surprised to learn the identity of the game's halftime show performer. Eddie Money, perhaps best known for the 1986 song "Take Me Home Tonight" (among other singles), sang "Two Tickets To Paradise" to the Memphis crowd. The song, which he released more than 32 years ago, clearly caught viewers off guard when ESPN aired a portion of the performance. Scroll down for a clip of the halftime show, as well as a dress rehearsal and several of Money's music videos.

Some people in blogs are complaining that Eddie Lip-Synced. Most of the minor bowls that don't have a huge half time budget or the time for the set-up/down do the lip sync thing. He has a touring band that plays with him 150+ shows a year. It's never good to lip sync,(Brittany,) but he had no choice. It's too bad he had to do it in front of XX0000 people, but at least he had the exposure. He probably hasn't lip sync'd since American Band Stand, where everyone did. He's the personification of the live rock n roll show.

As most people can tell upon listening, "Waiting For Love" and "Two Tickets" were originally two different songs. "Tickets" was total crap, but "Waiting" was a solid winner, so in order to salvage "Tickets," they awkwardly grafted "Waiting" onto it. The result is an oddball two-tone hit, with part of it still sounding good and part of it still sounding crappy.

Gotta love showbiz!

Before he made it big, Eddie's regular gig was at a bar on Irving St. in SF called the Country Roads - I worked a block away and found him by accident - and went back, and back, and back. He threw EVERYTHING into every set - even if he was playing to seven people - it was obvious he was going to be a star. He had his original guitar player then, of course - Jimmy Lyon - and that guy could tear it up. He was a tiny guy - he wore his Strat low-slung and stood in front of a full Marshall stack - made him look like a Lego mini-figure. Those were great days - and nights - in San Francisco...
