Patty Marsh And Jacob Bartels Arrested For Tattooing Crosses On Six Of Their Children (VIDEO)

First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:05 PM ET

A Georgia couple was arrested for tattooing six of their children with crosses. The younger five children each had a cross inked on the top of their hands, while the oldest had a cross on his upper arm above "Mama & Dad."

The couple didn't think they had done anything wrong, but the local Sheriff did not concur: "It's a painful procedure with a crude instrument," he said.

Religion makes you nuts, and there is something seriously wrong with the South.

First of all, it's says you did this with 6 of your kids, which iomplies there are more than six. Don't you think you should slow down a little on that? I mean, the mom must be exhausted by now.

2) You may just have given your kids Hepatitits C. I'm sure they'll love you for that.

3) Let the kids wait till adulthood to make permanent lifelong mistakes, okay?

The State of GA has a minimum age for consent to be tattooed. The shops I've been in won't even allow kids under that age in, much less to work on them.

Actually....I disagree with the sheriff....ear piercing is painful and is allowed to be performed on children, and so is circumcism ( which is often performed without anesthetics or analgesics)

If the procedure does not maim the child but is part of the parents' religious beliefs...then so be it

Thinking is anathema to religion.

Piercing and circumcision are both cruel and unusual practices as well. Why can't parents let their children choose to inflict such bodily mutilations when they are old enough to reason for themselves? Why must they impose?

I'm circumcized and don't have any recollection of it. It is a matter hygiene.

Ear piercing if done by the parents themselves instead of say a studio that is authorized to do it the parents would be charged. Same with circumsicison.
05:45 AM on 01/05/2010
It's not about their religion.

It's about a pair of loony parents that practiced an unsafe procedure (ink, tools, hygiene).

THAT's the part where the endangerment comes from, especially when you're doing something that draws blood.

The Step-Mom claims tattoos from a guitar string are NOT permanent. Is this true? If the tats will fade away this whole thing is blown way out of proportion.

Depends on the gauge of the needle, the ink used, and how far it penetrated. If she used ballpoint pen ink, they will fade, but it will take years. My 25 y/o tatts have faded very little.

Thing is you can get disease or various forms of metal posioning from that. Also guess what tattoos may fade but they still are permenant.

Too bad all religous people don't wear visible tattoo crosses, it would be a lot easier to avoid the knuckleheads.

No, that was Charlie Manson. See, these people are tattooing themselves. There's a distinction.

Holy cow. The tattooing is bad enough but with religious indoctrination? Is there a biker talibavangelist sect they joined?

Wow, so many stereotypes. These people are very wrong in what they have done but I am not going to tarnish all christians the same as these people and neither show you make disparaging comments about people with tattoos - we are not bad people, we are not all the same - BTW bikers are some of the kindest people I know, yes we have some bad elements but not all - want a fundraiser, ask a biker.

Anyway, I need to breathe. Basically madam I find your comment out of order.
