'Twitter For Food' Campaign Urges Skipping Meals, Giving To Charity

A new year, a new social-media-for-good campaign. TwitterForFood.com is urging users of the social microblogging site to tweet the following message:

Skip a meal on Tue. 1/5/10 with thousands on Twitter & use the savings to fund hunger relief. http://ow.ly/RYvH

Twitter For Food doesn't recommend a specific organization, but makes references to food organizations and food banks.

January 5 is the first planned #twitterforfood event, with more coming each month throughout 2010. TwitterForFood says that 100,000 people skipping a $7 meal once a month would raise $8 million dollars in a year to fight hunger.

To fight hunger domestically, head to Feeding America. For international relief, you can give through Stop Hunger Now or Heifer International.
