Jimmy Wayne Walks For Homeless: Country Star Starts Meet Me Halfway Campaign

Country star Jimmy Wayne is hitting the road, but not for a tour. The musician has initiated what he calls the Meet Me Halfway campaign, a walk from Nashville to Phoenix to raise awareness about homeless and at-risk youth.

As a young man, Wayne's dysfunctional upbringing led to a period of hunger and homelessness in his teenage years, and the singer has frequently supported organizations that fight such hardship. Wayne left Nashville on January 1 and his since walked over 50 miles. The 1,700-mile walk should take him four to five months to complete.

Wayne is encouraging donations to HomeBase Youth Services, an organization based in Phoenix that provides street outreach, substance abuse services, and job training for those who are under 21 and homeless.

Valory Music, Wayne's record label, has already contributed $50,000 to the Meet Me Halfway campaign. The blog Got Country? has pledged to donate 10 cents for every mile Wayne walks and asks supporters to make a similar pledge.

Donations to the campaign can be made through the Meet Me Halfway PayPal account. Follow Wayne's progress through his Twitter account.
