Chris Myers' Ricky Stanzi Question Leads To U.S.A. Rallying Cry (VIDEO)

First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:05 PM ET

Dr. Saturday finds video of a bizarre moment that occurred after Iowa won last night's Orange Bowl. Fox's Chris Myers asked Hawkeyes quarterback Ricky Stanzi if he "feels like sometimes you're representing more than just a school or a conference, maybe an entire group of American citizens out there."

Forced to answer the strange inquiry on live national television, Stanzi replied, "Well of course. I mean, there's nothing better than being American. So I mean, this is the greatest feeling. If you don't love it, leave it. U.S.A. number one!"

Scroll down for video of the exchange.

I watch MSNBC to see how the other side thinks. I noticed Myers made Olbermann's "Worst List" and had an idea why but missed Dolberman talking about it. I now found the video.

Sure while those right of center love them some USA, those left of center (at least those who post here), hate them some USA.

... and I sure noticed doubleclick.com popping up allot on my status bar below.

Those on the left are bitter, bitter people. I, however, am optimistic about our future.

Blah blah blah.

I knew it! Once Stanzi said that I knew the Left would be up in arms.

Myers' intent for the question was that Stanzi represented the people not on one of the coasts. As Stanzi answered, he went where he wanted.

I knew the Left would be up in arms once he said that. Someone being attacked for expressing one's love of country is expected now from the Modern Left.

Imagine Mr. Stanzi's name being Jackson,
Williams, Washington or Jefferson,
and his skin was a few hues darker;
Would that Iowa QB get the same question???

The question was moronic and Stanzi's love of country is fine, but having spent 11 years in the US Navy, serving in Beirut in 1983 when the Marine barracks went down and during the first gulf war, I don't need some priveleged snot nosed brat, who's greatest service thus far is winning a football game, telling ME to "Love it or Leave it"!
That phrase was an incindiary, derisive comment reserved for rednecks and bigots in the 70s, and he doesn't even understand what he's saying.
How about we just not ask college jocks, amped on testosterone right after a big win, any philisophical questions?

If he had said something else. the next thing on Faux News would be "some Iowans are not patriotic."

I don't understand people railing on Stanzi. Exactly what was he supposed to say? Someone asks him a ridiculous question he couldn't possibly have been prepared for, and he just spit out some words.

Myers is the one folks should be lampooning.

I was listening to the show and usually it is the asker who is out the window, Love it or leave it!!! What? We love it that Obama is president but I still want everyone to enjoy this country. All the countries actually.

All Chris Myers did was ask a smart question. Heaven forbid a network put a smart person on the sidelines. Would you rather have Pam Oliver down there asking 'How does it feel'?
11:25 AM on 01/07/2010
"Smart" question, based upon what? Who does he think the player represents? Italian Americans????

When I saw the FAUX interview with Stanzi my snark meter went to nuts. It sounded like Stanzi knew exactly who he was dealing with and fed them the BS they wanted to hear. Perhaps he can work for Colbert after he graduates.

When I listened to it a second time, I thought it seemed snarky to me too. Nowadays you can’t tell.

Teabaggers have ruined “snark” and sarcasm.

That's what I thought. It was a stupid question predicated on an entirely unclear socio-political supposition. Stanzi was saying something with an insider quality to it shown when he points at at teammate at the end. Of course we love America, what's the point of your question? Can we talk about the football game we just won?
