Washington Monthly:

'DROPPING LIKE FLIES'?.... Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) is retiring. So is Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.). And before anyone could catch their breath, Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter (D) announced he's not seeking re-election, either.

It led ABC News to report that "Democrats are dropping like flies."

George Voinovich (R-OH) used to be a good, fair legislator, but it's apparent that he's tired. And so he is retiring from the Senate. Nothing like having a lame duck Senator who just votes along party lines.

I'm wondering how many more SHOULD retire!

Hey it is JUST FACTUAL NUMBERS! Since when should the Republicans acknowledge the FACTS that they have more Senators & Congressmen retiring than the Democrats??? Republicans don't care about REALITY only IDEOLOGY!
03:19 AM on 01/07/2010
Isn't this just typical of the liberal media ?
02:41 PM on 01/07/2010
You mean the sneaky way those awful old Democrats go out into the real world, count up the real numbers and then report them?
12:47 AM on 01/07/2010
Let them spin it that way. The worst thing for Dems would be to go into 2010 thinking that things are won already.

The corporate-owned MSM was spinning fast and furious about the recent Nov. 3 elections (some of them governor elections) as being "referendums on Obama," despite the exit polls in both NJ and Va that stated to the contrary & the fact that VA voted for Dem twice during both Bush Jr. terms. Dems picked up major city mayor seats like Cincinnati, Charlotte, Houston (recently), St. Paul, etc, on top of winning 2 national congressional seats (CA-10 & NY-23), one of which hasn't been won since the CIVIL WAR. That one was the historic race that was off the MSM's radar quicker than anybody could have said "Rush Limbaugh leads the GOP."

MSM = fail

The repubs are following Sarah's lead. It is now quite fashionable to quit their positions.

Why can't Johnny Mac retire? If nothing else, he should do it out of concern for his health.
02:33 AM on 01/07/2010
He is losing his noodles ..... it is so obvious when you watch him ... sad in a way .... NOT

Voinovich is leaving his seat in Ohio. A Dem has a good chance to replace him. Two Dem Senators in Ohio

Would love to see another Democratic senator with Sherrod Brown's passion and honesty.

The rabid teabagging right will cost repubs some (let's hope, all) seats. The rabid right winger will win in the primary but won't be able to win in the general. Unless, we're talking about the south, that is.

SHHHHHHHHHH.

Repubs like to think that the Dem party is going down like the Titanic. Let's let them have their fantasies, okay?

We all know MSM will spin it like the republicans like it, but so be it, It won't change the facts or the truth. MSM has been spinning what ever they like, but it doesn't help them. Remember, OBAMA will never be president, the stimulus package will never pass, health care reform will never happen. They haven't been right yet. So let them spin. ha ha

We're outspent, but they're outnumbered

Surely we don't expect MSM pundits to pay any attention to math! If they want to say Democrats are "dropping like flies" or "running for the hills," one Democrat leaving office would be plenty - even if the office was dog-catcher, even if several more Republican dog-catchers were leaving.

I can just see one of these ABC interviewers trying to drum up this story: "But are you THINKING about leaving office . . . but is there ANY POSSIBILITY you won't seek reelection?" "Well, there you have it, folks, yet another Democrat in a growing AVALANCHE of discouraged office holders is bolting for the exit. . ."

Senators in the minority retire all the time. That's not news. It is, however, news when two very powerful incumbents in the majority retire due to the possibility of losing.
09:20 PM on 01/06/2010
Who says Dodd could be losing? Dorgan perhaps may lose his seat in ND but I don't see Connecticut voting republican anytime soon.
01:32 PM on 01/07/2010
Senator Chris Dodd was deeply in the pockets of lobbyists and he knows it. So

busted! His fight for re-election would be a war, not a battle.

Time to pack it in, grandpa.
12:04 AM on 01/08/2010
Dodd was losing to each Republican challenger in all polls save the Teabagger candidate. He was a weaker incumbent than Blanche Lincoln.
