'Lost' Premiere Frenzy: Will State Of The Union Bump It?

LAURI NEFF   01/ 7/10 05:22 PM ET   AP

Lost

NEW YORK — These fans would truly be lost without their favorite TV show – and they're taking their case to the top.

Fans of the ABC series about marooned plane crash survivors fear President Barack Obama will give his State of the Union address Feb. 2.

That's the same day as the three-hour premiere of the final season of "Lost."

Twitter comments Wednesday included "Leave my LOST alone, Skippy!" and "Come onnnn, Obama..pick another day."

The Facebook group "Americans Against the State of the Union on the Same Night as LOST" asks "When will it end?" It notes that Obama already bumped "A Charlie Brown Christmas" for his Afghanistan speech in some markets.

The White House isn't saying when Obama will speak. An ABC spokesman wouldn't say whether the network would consider moving the premiere.

I have been a huge fan of this show since it started and even I think this is dumb. It's only a one hour delay, so what, I waited nine months for the premier I can wait another hour. I like the idea of airing the primer in it entirety right after the SOTU speech..

This isn't about Lost, its about a rightwing Republican talking point to go after Obama for anything he does. Programing on TV during a State of the Union address has never been an issue with any other President. But now we are supposed to believe that a show that people joke about is more important then the State of the Union?

ABC was never smart enough to play up Lost for all it was worth ......

ABC will and should take the cue from FOX and air Lost. Who do you think people will watch?

Do I think that the entire viewing audience will tune into Lost instead of the State of The Union Address? No. Some will. I remember being so pl55ed when LBJ speaking at Johns Hopkins University preempted Gilligans Island just to announce a silly major escalation in Vietnam.
But I was like 7 years old.

- Watch Lost
- Tivo the State of the Union Address

oh wow - it's going to be 3 hours? I'm so excited and that's not sarcasms. Anyway, hopefully here in Canada it will air somewhere without your Prez interrupting.
03:54 AM on 01/09/2010
Yeah, but the first hour is always a recap. Only two hours are new.

If I were ABC I'd not change the schedule. I guarantee you the finale season premier of Lost will knock dust off of the State of the Union address. It'll be more entertaining and MUCH less predictable.

Seriously - run the show. Let the other networks get the commercial-free hour plus of political BS. Lost and ABC will literally clean up.

I think you're right, but then again I'm not American so I'm not sure how many people watch these things. We'd never give our PM prime time, LOL. Or maybe we do ... who'd watch.

The Illinois primary is that day as well. What to do? I really find State of the Unions boring and honestly, quite uninformative. Illinois politics is a joke. Come that Tuesday, the only thing I'll be thinking about all day is what happened when Juliet hit the button? OOO I can't wait.

They should run LOST premiere it in its entirely, after the SOTU speech. They bump shows into the next hour every Sunday during football season !!

ABC should opt out of showing the SOU and show Lost instead. People can watch the President blather on plenty of other channels.

Just show Lost and pretend the State of the Union speech never happened, like they did with Rudy's asinine assertion that 9/11, shoe bomber, anthrax, Beltway sniper, etc never happened during W's presidency.

I love it when people relate to completely unrelatable things. It shows your lack of intellect. And don't tell me it was joke b/c I guarantee nobody chuckled to themself when they read it.

"themself" isn't a word, and your guarantee is meaningless.

I chuckled. ABC did, in fact, ignore Rudy's BS.

A classic case of screaming before you are hurt. Still, the State of the Union address will probably be rerun on C-SPAN later that night or you could DVR or tape one while you are watching the other.
12:58 PM on 01/08/2010
abc usually airs the state of the union speech, as do all of the major networks
