Palin Fox News

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Sarah Palin, former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, will return to her broadcast roots and take her conservative message to Fox News as a regular commentator, the cable channel announced Monday.

"I am thrilled to be joining the great talent and management team at Fox News," Palin said in a statement posted on the network's Web site. "It's wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balanced news."

Fox said that according to the multiyear deal, Palin will offer political commentary and analysis on the cable channel, as well as Fox's Web site, radio network and business cable channel.

She also will host occasional episodes of Fox News' "Real American Stories," a series debuting this year that the network said will feature true inspirational stories about Americans who have overcome adversity.

"Governor Palin has captivated everyone on both sides of the political spectrum and we are excited to add her dynamic voice to the FOX News lineup," Bill Shine, executive vice president of programming, said in a statement.

The network declined to say when Palin will start or how much she is being paid. Also unclear is how the arrangement will work, whether Palin will move to New York or commute from Alaska. Company representatives did not respond to calls seeking comment and Palin's spokeswoman, Meghan Stapleton, did not respond to e-mails seeking comment.

Palin, 45, is hugely popular with conservatives and has more than 1.1 million Facebook followers.

She stepped down as Alaska governor in July, 17 months before the end of her first term in office and less than a year after she vaulted to overnight fame as John McCain's running mate.

The bombshell resignation stunned even supporters and fueled widespread speculation on her next career step – with predictions ranging from seeking the presidency in 2012 to hosting a conservative talk show. She told Barbara Walters in November that a 2012 presidential bid was not on her radar but added she wouldn't rule out playing some kind of role in the next presidential election.

Since resigning, Palin has had colossal success with her best-selling memoir "Going Rogue," released four months after she left office. She finished a nationwide tour in December after hitting some of the political battleground states from the 2008 election and drawing thousands of fans.

If she were to seek the presidency, her new job would provide yet another stage from which to advance her conservative platform. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who sought the presidency in 2008, also hosts a talk show on Fox News and hasn't ruled out another run for president.

Palin majored in journalism with an emphasis on broadcasting at the University of Idaho and worked part-time as a weekend sportscaster in 1988 for KTUU-TV in Anchorage. She wasn't married at the time and used her maiden name Heath. The station's sports director, John Carpenter, said the young broadcaster left after a few months because of the low pay.

Carpenter said he was sorry to see her go. She was a hard worker who enjoyed the entire process, not just being in front of the cameras, he said.

"She knew sports, she could talk sports, she looked OK on TV," Carpenter said. "She had the aptitude, no question."

Palin's upcoming commentary career had her Facebook fans giddy with excitement Monday.

"Tell 'em like it is girl!!!!!!," one person wrote on a post.

"I look forward to seeing you on Fox....but I hope it doesn't prevent you from running in '12!," another wrote.

Wow, can't remember when I've seen so many heads exploding, such lively competition to see who can craft the best zinger trashing Palin, each followed by huzzahs and well-saids and you-tell-em-bros and compliments about its brilliance. (I take it this style is what passes for reasoned discourse here, so I've tried to go with the flow.) Me, I'll just wait to see which way the Fox ratings move, if they move at all. This will be determined, by and large, by people who most likely have never heard of Huffington Post.

You misinterpret the fireworks: our sense of humor and exasperation have just collided and we are using language in a pointed, sarcastic way to relieve the intellectual pressure of trying to think of Sarah as contributing in a meaningful way to political commentary, even if it is on Fox. I can assure you nobody here is trying to pass any of their posts as reasoned discourse. We are not hypocrites. We are definitely being snide. LMAO

Good reply, Janet. Actually, I do know this, and don't really disagree with assessments about Palin's qualifications or lack thereof. But by focusing exclusively on her personal characteristics and inadequacies a larger and more important story is being overlooked, namely, the dynamics underlying her rise to political stardom, who is promoting her, and why.

Palin's resilience to the Left's sustained attack on her is rather impressive, reminding me of the story of Br'er Rabbit and the Tar Baby (with no racist implications intended - it's just too good an analogy to pass up simply because of political correctness). Here, of course, the Left is Br'er Rabbit and Palin is the Tar Baby that Br'er Fox(!) and Br'er Bear have constructed to trick Br'er Rabbit. Br'er Rabbit becomes annoyed by the Tar Baby's refusal to respond to simple questions and in frustration punches and kicks him, but he merely becomes stuck and progressively more and more ensnared with each ineffective blow.

Of course, Br'er Rabbit ultimately outsmarts Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear when he pleads with them not to throw him and the Tar Baby into the Briar Patch. But they seize on this idea with relish, believing that this would to be fatal to Br'er Rabbit and rid them of this pest once and for all. They don't realize that this is his natural habitat, and so after being unceremoniously thrown into the Briar Patch Br'er Rabbit escapes.

Sarah Palin and Fox news? The perfect marriage. They compliment each other. A match made in heaven. This is going to be great entertainment.

Deer in the headlights. A school kid trying to bluff an answer she doesn't know.

Palin comes out with a few rehearsed talking points. Move beyond those and even O'Reilly's softball questions rattled her. If he asked her one more question about Korea or 9/11 or Saddam, she would have spouted, "But it's really all about jobs, Bill. We have to cut taxes and support our troops and then there you have it, jobs. Which is the opposite of health care."

""Governor Palin has captivated everyone"

Much like viewing to smoldering ruins of 9/11 on TV that fateful day - hypnotic

New show with Palin could be called "The Biggest Liar."

What a perceptive mind! Indeed she can see facets invisible to many of us.
"Governor Palin has captivated everyone on both sides of the political spectrum ..." . Everyone? Really? They must not have seen my hand when they took this fair and balanced poll.
Give me a break.

OMG, political soul mates on live TV. Beck and Palin can complete each other's sentences, their thoughts, their "manifested" (Sarah's new age homage to go with Beck's 'paradigm shift') projections....Watched for an hour, and was continually awaiting something new beyond her propensity to tie religion and politics because our founding fathers did (although at least Beck mentioned that Payne was an atheist). Boring....

Sarah is a human being and as such she is entitled to our love and respect as long as we're able to keep her out of office - any office.

I just finished watching glen beck interview sarah "pitbull" palin. OMG you can't teach this kind of stupid folks. Makes me feel remorse for the years of education my parents invested in, on my behalf. Obviously we are now in the ERA of the simpleton! Where knowing nothing is a virtue - as long as either you believe in it strongly or you believe that God believes in it strongly. The rambling monologue was amazing - but informed of nothing. She said over and over about people embracing the simple commonsense solutions that work...but never gave any solutions. She ranted about politicians who betray the public's trust HELLO QUITTER do you even hear yourself? This woman sounds like Eva Peron - in love with herself to the max. Oh, but she prays so she must be holy and pious and Christian right? God Damn these LYING politicians who will do anything for power and control...and in Sarah's case obviously GEEED. Isn't that one of the 7 deadly sins?

Sarah Palin: A Legend in Her Own Mind! The rules, anyone's rules, do not apply to Sarah. For starters, she'd have to understand. Something. Anything!!

ENTITLED? TO what? After QUITTING her job and ABORTING her public RESPONSIBILITY to the people who elected her and to whom she SWORE AN OATH (guess we know what her word means) ENTITLED to QUIT for big bucks? What a woman of the people she is! ENTITLED to not write a book and not give credit to her ghostwrite? ENTITLED to LIE constantly to the American people? ENTITLED to give her opinion on politics when she QUIT? ENTITLED to have her daughter get pregnant while still in High School, causing her to drop out....and then lecture others FOR MONEY of course - on how to be abstinent when she was not? ENTITLED to be completely unqualified and ignorant of the issues, but ENTITLED to the nomination by God? You are entitled to your opinion of course - but this woman has been thrust upon us by DISHONEST politicians (GOP & old man McCain) and her record is one of FAILURE and WUITTING. not service. Go back to Ak Sarah! Thanks but no thanks!

This is great news! She is perfect for Fox...she's a clueless rambler. Glenn Beck motiviates us tons...she will motivate us tons more than Beck. Can't wait for the turn out she will generate.

I may be alone here, but I welcome this move. This job is a much more natural fit than Vice President of the United States for Sarah's brand of militant ignorance.
09:27 PM on 01/13/2010
In view of the particular "news" organization, I must admit that this may well be a perfect fit. At Fox, no one is required to learn or fact check anything. Ms. Palin does qualify on both accounts.

Absolutely. She should have a show with guys with banjos.

the Palin speaks a wholly new language ; is 'alaskaranto' the new esperanto? it is stupefyingly funny...

She actually speaks in "tongues" Her religious background gives her special powers to speak in languages that aren't understood by others.
