Dixie Chicks

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Two members of the Dixie Chicks – minus lead singer Natalie Maines – are preparing to release a new album this year.

According to CMT.com, sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robison are working on a project to be released on Columbia Records.

However, Lloyd Maines, Natalie's father, tells CMT.com that the three girls are "definitely still an entity." He says the sisters are "cutting some demos" and that Natalie recorded "a little something with them" about a year ago.

The Associated Press' attempts to contact their publicist and Columbia Records were unsuccessful.

The Dixie Chicks suffered a backlash from fans and country radio over comments Natalie Maines made about President George W. Bush in 2003. The Chicks released their last album in 2006, called "Taking the Long Way."

The group has won 13 Grammys and was named the CMA entertainer of the year in 2000.

Your article states that "... The Dixie Chicks suffered a backlash from fans and country radio ...".

It SHOULD have been written "...The Dixie Chicks suffered a backlash from SOME fans and country radio over comments ..."

They have been great for many years, and the song SOME people got excited about was also GREAT !

Love the Chix before, during and after the 'Incident'. But they are not the same without Natalie. SHe is one of the best female country voices in the last 20 years. Period. Can't replace that.

And for all the yahoos posting about all the money they lost. WRONG! Just cause a band-performer is not on the 24-7 rotation list for Clear Channel doesn't mean the band-performer is broke. They are one of the big touring acts and make a ton of money on the road.

Oh and the statement 'I hate just hate it when a celebrity makes political statements for either side' translates to ' I DO NOT AGREE WITH WHAT WAS SAID'. FYI, waving the flag IS a political statement but yet no one gets theirs knicker in a bind over THAT.

well i love the dixie chicks and without natalie's beautiful voice? just not sure it could be the
dixie chicks...they could go on together and be great but natalie's voice is so very distinctive
that i can't imagine it would sound anything close to the same. i hope natalie will atleast
come out and sing on her own?

Love all the chix, but Natalie really helped the group stand out, political comments and all. I saw that documentary about them and the reality is that they didn't get anywhere substantial until Nat came along.

I see Natalie doing an album that's some country and some rock, like a country Pink. Oh gosh, I'd love to hear Pink and Natalie do a song together w/ the combo of Nat's high notes and Pink's grittiness.

LOVE the Chicks. They are each soooooooooo talented in their own right, and as a group they are awesome. I can't imagine the Chicks w/o Natalie's voice, though. Hope it never, ever comes to that.

Love the chicks. I can see Natalie doing a rock album. I think that's what she's always wanted to do.

Those two sisters can really play. they are outstanding musicians. Listening to their music it is sometimes quite a revelation how good they are. The vocal power of Natalie can also be quite impressive. I have been interested in perhaps hearing some purely instrumental releases, just the great playing of two sisters who know how...at any rate country music needs to apologize and beg forgiveness for the boycott, though they have a few rough edges, these ladies can sure make fine music, they have the talent to go well beyond "country"....hope they keep on for a long time. And I don't even like country music, but they have something that goes beyond, and I hope they and their fans will continue to treasure that.

I know, there is no one (especially in country music) that comes close to the amount of talent possesed by the dixie chicks.
You just don't see musicians writing their own music and playing their own instruments anymore...at least not often.

You folks, remember John Lennon. They're are so many great music aritists who have spoken up and didn't have the idiot rabble attacking them. Just shows how our education system is broken like the banking system is, afraid to question and try to intimidate those that do.

Jon Lennon was more populist, the Dixie Chicks had a fan base that included a lot of warped individuals who looked upon George Bush as a patriot.

I think I get your point, but are you actually trying to say that John Lennon didnt get a lot of backlash from fans and media when he took a more spiritual, less religion sensitive route?

Natalie should have apologized when she said she was ashamed GWB was from Texas. Something like this: "I regret that I said I was ashamed George Bush is from Texas. What I should have said was, 'I'm ashamed he's our president, regardless of where he's from.' "

Why should she have apologized ... she was telling it as it was and not lying. Bush lied to us and took us into Iraq... Why? It had nothing to do with 9/11 sooooooooo

LOL :-)

Natilie Maines was not the first singer in this group.
They are a very talented group, and talented individuals.
I'm sure they don't give a rats*** about what everyone else thinks.

Actually, they did. There's a documentary about the whole thing called "Shut Up and Sing". They were horrified that this happened. Very scared for their lives and their careers.

My friend was in this band before Natalie. Those sisters have real talent and hve been doing this for a long time.

Toby Keith the Thug should man up cuz he owes The Dixie Chicks millions. I suppose its bittersweet that Natalie Maines was right about the W.
