Apple is focusing on the wrong stuff.

It needs superior video and zoom in its camera, photo/movie editing software, and a better UI for entering input. The touchscreen is passable, but not if you need to write a lot of emails--or a really long one. Zoom in/out of the screen needs to be accessible from the buttons, especially for maps, especially for drivers who use it as a GPS. Voice dictation of text messages needs to become standard. Instant messenging to multiple services (MSN, Yahoo, AIM, Facebook) needs to be supported in the background.

And that's just my short list...

While I love the innovation of Apple products, I hate cell phones, and our obsession with them, with a passion.

The constant non stop yammering of everyone drives me nuts. They are never talking about anything, it goes like this: "Im' not doing anything, what you you doing? Can you hear me now?" then it goes on and on.

A neighbor wanted to go to Home Depot with me, first thing his phone rings, and the rest of the trip is me listening to him talk about nothing.

If he hadn't come I could have listened to the radio, but no, I had to listen to half of a conversation about nothing.

Goldman Sachs says the iPhone will have new features and 4G? Won't provide a source?

What the hell kind of a news website is this?

I've bought every new iPhone that's ever been released, and will buy this too. The only thing that will suck about dying is not being around to get the latest iPhone.

What will hurt Apple and the iPhone the most. Phones last a year or two, the life of a phone contract, so googles nexus seems cool at the moment, so a lot of people will simply give it a go, a one or two year contract, meh, why not, it's not like it's anything permanent and the same thing goes for M$ phones. It will be interesting to see how many customers google retains after a couple of years but by then of course the damage will long since have been done to Apple and M$ phones, although it is likely that Apple will pick off more M$ customers than it will lose to Google. In fact some cooperation between Apple and Google at this point would likely have some rather enormous pay offs, well beyond the phone.

What I'd like is more battery time.

Hey alright, another incremental upgrade that I'm expected to pay full price for when they could have easily included these features in the LAST incremental upgrade. Gee, thanks Apple no wonder I haven't bought any of your products for the last 10 years. Who am I kidding though the Apple fanboys will be chomping at the bit to get rid of perfectly good tech just so they can have the latest and greatest from the "geniuses" in Cupertino.

Oh give it a rest. I'm sorry you hate Apple and I'm sorry Apple is so successful. And sorry that millions of people love their products over the junk you buy. Just because you're broke and technologically backwards doesn't mean the rest of us have to be.

And can the childish, overused, trendy term "fanboy" just die already? Many of us, myself included, have been using Apple products for close to 30 years, long before the snot nosed kid who coined the word "fanboy" was even born. We stuck with Apple through it's rise and fall and then rise again over decades .... so attempts to paint us as naive tech newbs who spring at the newest shiny object are just plain laughable. You're wasting your time and breath. Go buy a Zune and suck on it :)

IMO, the reason these features weren't in previous 'upgrades' is because it hasn't been until recently that Apple has been given real competition in terms of iPhone alternatives. It seems like the entire history of iPhone versions has been one of leaving features out until being forced to put them in (example: flash plugin for iPhone safari - are we still waiting for that?) Competitors are giving Apple a run for its money now.

"Upgrading to a 5-megapixels camera will bring the handset into line with that offered by Google Inc.’s Nexus One which was released last week, Chen said. "
