iPhone Vs. Google Phone: 7 Things The iPhone Has The Nexus One Doesn't (PHOTOS)

Huffington Post     First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 04:10 PM ET

Google's new phone, the Nexus One, has been out barely a week and already, the "honeymoon is over."

Complaints regarding Google's 'iPhone killer' have been mounting, so we decided to take another look at the new phone, to examine 7 things the iPhone has the Nexus One doesn't.

Check them out in the slideshow below--then see features the Google Phone has the iPhone lacks.

Fewer Buttons

One of the iPhone's biggest advantages is actually something it doesn't have, and which the Nexus One does: multiple buttons on the face of the phone. Whereas the iPhone has only the single "home" key on its face, the Nexus One a trackball and four touch buttons (for back, home, menu, search). In this case, less is more: TechCrunch notes that the trackball gives "inconsistent results" and David Pogue writes the "balky" buttons often "[ignore] your finger-presses."

My 5 Reasons the Nexus One is Better Than the iPhone in video: http://bit.ly/bhaB70

OK, so the Google Nexus One is a dud. But the Motorola Droid still does better than the iPhone, even with it's screen quirks. (More than likely, this will be corrected in the near future as their is another Android update coming this month.)

Apple still boasts they are #1, and can afford to plant news storys much like this one about how they are the rulers of the work and that your obedience is necessary if you want to live. But their is just one problem: The iPhone runs on AT&T.

3G MEAN NOTHING especially with Sprint and Verizon beginning to implement 4G networking, when the only thing that is going for AT&T is the fact that they have the iPhone. Service on the other hand, is a different story according to ah Zagat Survey ( http://www.zagat.com/downloads/pdf/pressStats/20100113_wireless.pdf ) and Consumer Reports ( http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine-archive/2010/january/electronics-computers/cell-phone-service/overview/cell-phone-service-ov.htm )

Just remember: The #1 phone runs on the #4 network. Caveat Emptor!

Here's an unpopular view:

The constant use of cell phones is ruining our world.

The biggest problem I have with the Nexus One is that it doesn't have ENOUGH buttons. These touch-only phones are terrible and with no full keyboard Android phones looking to appear in the future I might be stuck with my G1 forever. Still, I'd take that over using the terrible interface of an iPhone.

I love my nexus one. With my 1 ghz processor I can have my music, web, email, SMS, and more open in same time with no slowdown. Reviews I've read doesn't say the same about iPhones inferior processor and ability to run multiple apps. Also the 3g section of the article was misleading. Only a small number of nexus ones have 3g issues, and if you use an iphone with T-Mobile you don't get 3g either so fact that nexus one doesn't work with att 3g is a neutralized non issue. My buttons on my nexus are handy with exception of search...and yes they work consistently.

The Motorola Droid got the same hazing that the Nexus One did a couble of months ago. The beautiful people are still unaware that when Flash for Android comes this spring, it will be game over of the iPhone.

My only greviance with the Droid is that it doesn't have quick access to the telephone like the HTC Droid Eris does. (The standard Green and Red buttons specifically used for making phone calls.)

There is so many things wrong with this article
1 in the "Superior Touch Screen" picture the Nexus one is not even in the picture, and that is very misleading. and yes they iPhone may have a "superior" touch screen for now but that is only cuz it is a software thing not a hardware thing that makes it superior and apple has been working on it for 3 generations of the phone. nexus one just came out give them a break and some time to work on it. and if you go to the original screen test website http://bit.ly/5m1Mvn it shows that the Nexus one had almost the same quality touch screen as the iPhone, and it did better tracking fingers on the side of the screen then the iPhone
2 If you remember correctly which apparently you don't the iPhone had horrible customer service when it was first released too. with all the activating through iTunes and all that bull
3 Again with the app store i refer you to the 3 gens of iPhones and only one of the Nexus One. as well as the 3 years the app store had been running compared to the 1.5 years the Android Market Place has been running. and plus how many more are to come to the app store with all the developers moving from the iPhone to Andriod because of Apples app store restrictions?

Nexus One is One-derful!! For all who complain about the hidden ETF, they must not read very well. It was well publized even ahead of the launch.

As to usefulness, Nexus One is vastly superior. The voice recognition/transcription feature that allows spoken emails, messaging, searching and other functions is a function you will never give up once you've tried it. And the seamless and cordless syncing of google functions makes it a way more practical device (as opposed to toy) than iphone. Combine it with google voice and you get your voicemail transcribed and sent via sms and email without having retrieve spoken voicemail and listen to it.

Carrying your personal cloud with you (calendar, email, voicemail) without having to sync or dial anything is a breeze and a joy. Its the future.

The camera is clearly better (5 mpx vs 3 mpx) and the screen clearer and bigger.

Focus on 80,000 extra, useless games, toys and apps is irrelevant to me.

Funny how many people still believe, wrongly, that megapixel count defines camera quality. 5 megapixels is not automatically better than 3 megapixels.

Too many megapixels for a given sensor size will lead to interference (noise) and degradation in image quality.

Lens quality is the most important technical factor. The image processor is important, too.

FWIW: I don't own an iPhone; I'm considering a smartphone but am not committed to the purchase of one yet; and I still shoot more film than digital.

Assuming that AT&T can accually support any new iPhones on their network. http://consumerist.com/2009/12/att-customer-service-new-york-city-is-not-ready-for-the-iphone.html

The iPhone is the most fabulous tool I ever purchased. Actually the best anything I ever purchased. And that's in decades of shopping sprees. Love love LOVE my iPhone!!

I have not seen or laid hands on a Nexus One. Then I am in Australia where it is not being released yet.
As for the Iphone I got the 3g version on the day it was released. I got it with a 24 Month contract paying $80 a month with something of up to $600 a month of calls included on that rate. Data has so far not been a problem. I have experienced no dropouts of calls. I can certainly attest that any call dropouts those on the AT&T network are experiencing is not due to the Iphone, but to the network. So do not complain about the Iphone just complain about the exclusive contract.

There is a basic phone being made named 'Jitterbug'. they basically are phones and not exotic toys. They have large legible buttons for dialling and the screens show text or numbers in a size easy to read.

I have no experience with these phones but there must be some sites where you can find out just how good they are.

I've considered checking them out for myself.
