Obama To Campaign In Massachusetts For Coakley

LIZ SIDOTI and GLEN JOHNSON   01/15/10 02:23 PM ET   AP

Obama

WASHINGTON — Democratic sources tell the Associated Press that President Barack Obama intends to travel to Massachusetts before Tuesday to campaign for the endangered Democratic candidate in a Senate special election.

The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to pre-empt a White House announcement. The timing of the visit is uncertain.

A poll is showing a shift in favor of the Republican Party in the race to fill a Senate seat that Democrats have held for more than half a century. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy died of brain cancer last August.

The event is at a gymnasium, and admission was by how early you got in line, as far as I could tell. The president shouldn't speak at such a small venue unless it's a $4800-per-seat fundraiser.

Health insurance coverage and unpaid health care for full-time workers and their family members without employer coverage costs the U.S. public $45 billion a year.

www.news-medical.net/news/2008/05/02/38001.aspx.

If you think you haven't been paying for the uninsured here's some facts for you.

If it is costing the US public $45B annually to cover the unpaid health care benefits...it is much cheaper to continue with the status quo than to mandate health care coverage which will cost $800B over ten years.

He who laughs first laughs last.

We (Americans) are already paying $45 billion a year for the uninsured. Keep laughing because you will keep paying.

Many democrats are fed-up with Obama. POTUS campaigning for Coakley could backfire. People will be reminded of the bs.

It will back fire. Obama deserves getting this health care shoved down his throat

They should be fed with this.

Projected spending for 2008

$2,394.3 billion - National Health Expenditures (NHE)

$7,867.7 - NHE per capita

16.6% - NHE as percent of GDP

Over the projection period in this paper (2007-2017), growth is anticipated to remain steady at around 6.7 percent per year, yielding an estimated $4.3 trillion in health spending in 2017.

Gross domestic product (GDP) growth is expected to average 4.7 percent per year over the projection period. Therefore, health spending growth is expected to outpace economic growth by an average of 1.9 percentage points annually.

Dems and the President have been demonized by the GOP -- it's time we ask for supernatural intervention. God still answers prayers:

Dems had better P.R.A.Y. d@y and night and ALL d@y on Tuesday, January 19 that Martha Coakley supporters find their way to the polls. I can GUARANTEE the Religious Right are praying day and night for a Scott Brown victory.

Do something:

http://my.barackobama.com/CoakleyN2N

Sign up and make some calls on Martha Coakley's behalf. I did, and I spoke to some of the nicest people. I got through to over 40 people, and all but a few were voting for Martha (including two people who were rounding up their whole family to vote for her). BTW: the few who weren't voting for Martha Coakley were undecided!

It's really an inspiring feeling to pick up the phone and dial a voter's number on the other side of the country (I'm in Los Angeles) and hear them say, "Oh, yes, we're all supporting Martha, don't you worry."

Make some calls for Martha right now!

why should I???

Putting aside your castigation and sound-bites against the hard working poor and many times middle class I will answer: because that is how successful societies work.

Members contribute to the general welfare of all so that their environment is more safe, secure, orderly, healthy, less worrisome, and peaceful. They do this because via instinct or cognition they know that their survival and that of of the progeny requires such unselfishness to survive in the long run.

This is modeled in human societies and in the animal and indeed even the plant world. It is how species buffer themselves individually from the changes in the environment that they find themselves unable to survive individually. I could go on. But I doubt you'd understand - and I doubt you'd recognize the overwhelming evidence through the ages for cooperation and mutual efforts - over less "egalitarian" ones.

The government - any government in a free and pleasant society the has to have as its guiding principle what we have in the:

Preamble of OUR CONSTITUTION!!!!

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

When it comes to campaigning to protect the 60 vote supermajority so he can go on proposing reforms to shake down campaign dollars from monied interests in exchange of watering down those reforms into oblivion, Obama has no problem traveling to Mass to use the bully pulpit on Coakley's behalf.

When it comes to campaigning for the public option in Connecticut on behalf of the welfare of the very voters who voted him into office, Obama nails his behind to the leather chair in the Oval Office...

Obama only cares about himself and his own re-election. He's no public servant. He's in office to serve himself. Kick him out of office!!!

You may have a point. On the other hand, who ever said that passing health care reform would not require making some smelly deals? I would suggest that making your complaint 11 months from now would be a better strategy. If you are really a democrat/progressive/liberal, you should understand that whatever failings Obama may have, they are NOTHING compared to the chaos that the Republicans will unleash upon this nation if he is driven from power. Because the same damn problems that GWBush created, that Obama is unable to solve, will land on the head of a putative incoming Republican, and all the tools he/she will have will be tax cuts, and trickle down religion. That will solve absolutely nothing, and plunge us in deeper.

Damn, Daphydd, you're good. I agree. Progressives who want to take their toys and go home, destroying a Presidency and HCR in the process are infantile.

Standing up for for you believe is understandable. But learn where to pick your fights, strategically regroup, and come back for another round later. Social Security was watered down by Republicans to exclude blacks in part of its legislative phase. Improvements can be made. Public options can be added later.

Progressives have an unfortunate history of always going down in round one.

MANY people use the word socialism and government takeover and other words to scare people. These words do NOT have a negative conotation..on the contrary ...they have a very direct meaning ...especially to the people that are suffering right now ...have lost their home or all they have to pay for an insurance ....which should be just that ...a backstop...a safety net ...a preservation of a way of life that if you buy into ...work hard ..save ...get ahead ...that you won't have in the blink of an eye it ALL taken away from you ...just because you get sick...

In Canada and in most other western democracies ...the crux of the matter is twofold (2 )

DO people of higher means pay more for people thay have little or nothing? ...and the answer is yes in those countries but NOT in the US.

Can Insurance companies in some of those countries co-exist with the government ? ..and again the answer is yes (ONLY ) with strict regulation and the guiding principle that yes ...capitalism ..or a commericial entity can make a profit ...just NOT one that is OBSCENE...

so there you have it ..argue away one way or the other ..but it ALL boils down to that ...and now the few people that stand in the way have to vote and wrestle with their morals ... ...

if they have any?
