Ed Schultz On MA Election: 'I'd Cheat To Keep These Bastards Out' (AUDIO)

First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:15 PM ET

On Friday, MSNBC host Ed Schultz proposed a radical path to a Democratic win in the unexpectedly close Massachusetts Senate race for the late Ted Kennedy's seat: cheating.

"If I lived in Massachusetts, I'd try to vote ten times," Schultz said on his radio show, The Ed Schultz Show.

"Yeah that's right," he went on. "I'd cheat to keep these bastards out. I would. Because that's exactly what they are."

President Obama is planning a last-minute campaign trip for Democrat Martha Coakley. The AP has a good rundown of the stakes of the upcoming election.

The late-game White House aggressiveness reflected a sudden deep concern among Democrats that they could lose a seat the party has controlled for more than half a century - and with it the 60th Senate vote that is all that has kept alive the health care overhaul that Obama has spent his entire first year pushing toward passage.

Beyond that, a poor outcome for Coakley on Tuesday would make moderate Democrats ever more nervous about backing Obama on other issues out of concern about their own re-election chances in November, undercutting his presidency just as he's beginning his second year.

I have chosen not to have television at home however there are small televisions on the treadmills at the local gym. The only "News" channel they feature is MSNBC. I was appalled by Ed, Keith, Rachel and Chris. I can't believe that programming like this exists in the USA! Sick people should not be in these public positions. God save us from them and their leaders. Obama, Frank, Rangel, Pelosi, Reid etc etc etc..... What a sick world.
"They missed me with abortion, they're taxing me to death; if I ever retire they'll try to euthanize me. Don't Democrats just kill ya?"
Let's pray they don't get by with cheating in Mass. today like they did with the Al Franken thing!

Yes, you in particular do seem to live in a sick world. I'm really glad you're not part of my world.

Congratulations to Mr. Ed.

You are to the left what Rush is to the right. No morals, no objectivity, demonizing the other side while uttering nonsense that you think your fan club wants to hear.

Heck of a good job.

Oh please get a grip! he went a little bit overboard is all. he is far being anything like that "thing" called Rush.

I like ED...but you can't cross the line like that. I understand the passion behind the statement...but...well, if we do this then we might as well become Republicans, or modern day conservatives....win at any price.

Where does that stop? It doesn't.

But, I like Ed.

You go Ed. The GOP has no morals. If I lived in Mass I'd do the same thing. Fight fire with fire. The Gop has no idea what democracy is.

Okay, explain a democracy. Then explain a representative republic?

A commentator who, on air, advocates and encourages criminal activity. Amazing that he maintains his job! But, when considering the stations descendency into the world of substandard reporting: skewed rants to accommodate their bias, misconstruals, erroneous predispositions, AND, downright bigotry vs. overt intolerance; it is not surprising that their ratings are commensurate with the dreck they produce.

Ed Schultz and while we are at it Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow are not even intelligent commentators. They're sarcastic schoolyard bullies intent upon shouting down any dissenting opinion.

Try the 2000 presidential election, for starters! Plus check out the film "Uncounted: New Math of American Elections" about the '04 Presidential election. A few more documentaries out there as well you can find in Netflix. I just can't remember them off the top of my head.

I would do the same.
And I am not scared of saying that.
Everyone in the country should be scared , when the greatest and richest country in the World struggling hard to give the chance to get health Care to it's citizens.
And those who are staying on Public Option on our Taxpayer's money - those are abandoning citizens from ANY chance to get it.
What a shame.
Next generations will never forgive us, if we let GOP to kill this bill.

Aw, you didn't get any bribe money either?

lordmi-Thank you for a sensible post. You just made a new fan.
Lots of cold hearted right wingers love to post in HP. I'm sure
they have a good health plan for themselves & their families.
It's a shame they want to leave out 40 million Americans just
for spite. What else is new. :(

Not "radical" at all Ed. Not if you're a Demo-rat! Just (funny) business as usual.

Even people that I generally lie can say things that are really unhelpful. Ed Schultz just did that. This will be used against the candidate and the causes about which Ed and I agree.

As frequently happens in activism, it's time to go back to the wise words of Saul Alinsky: "Any action that we take which draws more negative reaction to us than it generates positive reaction for our cause is counter-revolutionary.."

I'd bet that Ed Schultz would like to take this back, but in this age of video-tape that has become very difficult. Sooner or later we're going to have to admit that we're all human and we all can say things that look bad on instant-replay.

question for HP,
If there was a video tape of a Republican aide knocking a reporter to the ground for trying to ask Brown a question, would it be plastered all over your site the day before this special election?
