Survivors Rescued 126 Hours After Haiti Earthquake (VIDEO)

First Posted: 03/20/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 04:15 PM ET

The situation in Haiti, for all the desperation and despair it has caused, has also been marked by moments of incredible heroism as well as some miracle rescues of those trapped in the rubble. Yesterday, rescue workers were able to save 2 survivors who were trapped for 126 hours in a collapsed supermarket. Both survivors are said to be in stable condition. Such rescues, so many days after the earthquake, give hope that there is still time to save more victims who are trapped.

Revised from Ecclesiates - C 4, V 1-3 - "We observed all the heartache of the millions of souls in Haiti during the disastrous earthquake. We see the tears and helplessness of the victims. With this catastrophe, is God concluding that the dead are better off than the living and most fortunate of all, those who were never born?" We need Worldwide Family Planning programs before humanity destroys the earth with the take over of the pro-life movement!

Doctors without Borders: US is occupying Haiti

Geneva-based charity Medecins Sans Frontieres says hundreds of lives were being put at risk as planes carrying vital medical supplies were being turned away by American air traffic controllers.

American military commanders have repeatedly stressed that they are not entering the country as an occupying force.

US soldiers in Port-au-Prince said they had been told to be discreet about how they carry their M4 assault rifles.

A paratrooper sergeant said they were authorized to use "deadly force" if they see anyone's life in danger but only as a "last resort".

B.S. pure B.S. Get your facts straight before posting malarky. The USA and Haiti are working in cooperation...there is a signed agreement. The USA is not occupying Haiti.

It's not a rescue operation until the frenchmen cry. The airstrip has one runway and everybody wants it, that's just how it is. And the UN currently outnumbers the US by 9-1. Some occupation.

In better news, the US is airdropping and helicopter dropping supplies in now. The port should be opened within a few days.

ABOARD THE USS BATAAN - In the world where U.S Marines are about to find themselves, the worst enemy could be a pool of stagnant water.

Their best weapon could be a baby wipe.

Disease looms as a major threat to Marines who will soon land in Port-au-Prince, where earthquake victims are struggling to survive. Malaria, typhus, HIV and hepatitis can be as devastating to a team as a rocket-propelled grenade or improvised explosive device.

"This is going to be beyond anything you've ever seen in Iraq and Afghanistan," Marine Capt. Edmund Clayton said during a recent briefing of unit leaders.

His advice was detailed and extensive.

I once rescued a cat who had been trapped without food for five or six days. I still have hope for Haitians trapped under the rubble.

They can go without food for three weeks if healthy. As long as they can get some water theyve got time. Three weeks for food, three days for water, three minutes for air.

What is very disturbing here in Massachusetts is a male parading on TV asking Obama to go look for his daughter in Haiti. He commands Obama to go to Haiti and look for his daughter. Rescue teams are working round the clock to find survivors irrespective of where they come from. The problem with this guy is a sense of entitlement and as if he is so special. What about folks with sons and daughters in Afghanistan, Haiti and Iraq too? They are not running their mouths on TV calling on Obama to go get their daughters and sons. And the fellow has the nerve to mention Obama’s daughters …asking what he will do if his daughter was in Haiti. Fortunately we pray for the daughter to be found alive irrespective of the bitter impression left by this man. God will listen to our prayers and disregard whatever he says.
We have a long ways to go with equality. It’s going to take time for these old schools to die …

I wish the dam ned press would stay away from the rescue workers. They're nothing but an impediment to rescuers. We don't need to see these rescues in order to "feel good" about ourselves. There are far more important things for them to cover.

My son and I saw NBC going to another town that was totally devasted, and both of us thought the same thing: Did you take cases of water with you, or did you just go to get a story?

I need to see the rescues to feel better about life and I think people with relatives in Haiti would like to hear of these stories of hope as well.

Isn't it a shame that a Caribbean paradise such as Haiti had to have a devastating disaster for the world to pay attention. The old saying it is always darkest before the dawn, I predict, is going to be true for Haitians.

I remember Bobby Sands. Died in 1981, age 27.
Irish RA member who died after a hunger strike that lasted 66 days.
But at least he had water.

How long can a person survive without water?

Randall K. Packer, a professor of biology at George Washington University, explains.
It is impossible to give an answer to this seemingly simple question because many variable factors determine a person's survival time. Under the most extreme conditions, death can come rather quickly. For example, a child left in a hot car or an athlete exercising hard in hot weather can dehydrate, overheat and die in a period of a few hours. An adult in comfortable surroundings, in contrast, can survive for a week or more with no, or very limited, water intake.

OK, it's been 6 days since the quake. If I were a survivor of that quake, believe me, I'd be looking for both water and food, since food contains water, too.

And why are Haitians taking anything not nailed down? Because you might be able to trade a TV set for a bottle of water? Until you have been in their shoes, don't judge their motives. The main thing is to stay alive right now.

“How long can a person survive without water?”

If you are willing to drink your own urine, which is a healthy thing to do, you can survive for quite a while. We have a taboo against it, but extreme military survivalists are trained to do it.

Day six is usually when dehydration sets in. (not good)

To be honest, I can almost guarantee they won't find anyone else that wasn't buried with some sort of water alive.

These definitely aren't comfortable surroundings. First it's going to hot buried under concrete in the tropics. Then if people were losing blood there's no way they could survive. Then if you're buried the air might be bad and if people breathe through their mouth to compensate they'll lose a lot of moisture. Plus, this article doesn't mention that although maybe your body can live that long you start going crazy long before. Wouldn't surprise me if people thought they could dig their way out and exhausted themselves. Maybe someone unconscious or smart enough to just try to sleep most of the time and drink their own urine on day one might make it another day but other than that I don't know.

A good question would be whether it's rained in Haiti since the quake. If it rained, maybe some of the water trickled down to people. That could buy people days if that happened.

I wish all the best to the Haitian people. Everyone has the opportunity to search their hearts and respond financially as well as with good will. Americans have always been the leader in response to disasters like this.

Well no edgercaycedoc, not all of us have an opportunity to respond financially..................
Do remember that SS payments didn't go up this year ( because we didn't have severe inflation,............... In whose world?)
I began to get sick from my polluted well, ( that I can't afford to redrill or buy a fancy fliter system..)
so I had to buy a new Brita filter capsule..for $18.00.That's the equivalent of 3 meals!
All I can do is pray & bleed from the heart for these poor people!
