The Most Ridiculously Expensive Hotel Suites In The World (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 03/21/10 06:12 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 04:15 PM ET

For the typical leisure traveler, this year is reportedly an exceptional moment to snatch up luxury hotel accommodations at bargain prices. As the downturn curbs the amount of time and money people are willing to spend on vacation, many upper-end resorts are scrambling to fill their empty rooms.

But things are a bit different at the world's most extravagant resorts, where the trend seems to be headed in the other direction. Some hoteliers say that demand for their swankiest rooms has boomed -- even in the recession -- and the rates for these rooms actually increased by an average of 10% in 2009.

Keeping this in mind, we compiled a list of the hotel suites that still command tip-top dollar, most of which raised rates last year. Check out the top suite, a plush hideout just a few miles from the U.N. headquarters in Geneva, which doubled in price last year.

Check out our list of the most expensive hotel suites in the world:

The Imperial Suite at Park Hyatt Vendôme, Paris – $20,000 per night

With its high ceilings and spa bathroom, the room rate for the Imperial Suite, the premium suite at the the Park Hyatt Vendôme in Paris, is $20,000 per night.

Have never seen a better argument for a 90% tax bracket for the super rich. Can't believe that there are places that cost more than two year's salary for the average person for one a night stay.

Why not just buy a permanent place to rest your feet that you can use year around unless staying in them is a status symbol for people who can afford it?

One thought the days of Reichsmarshall Goering were over. This is over the top--almost embarrassing. But them that have, have no shame, and those who don't, think this is OK.

No wonder there are no "values" left!

They are all absurd, and merely serve to illustrate the increase in the number of global plutocrats.

That jacuzzi in the Hefner suite must stick out a long way if it overhangs the Strip, seeing as how the Palms is over a mile to the West on the other side of I-15.

Typical of PR puffery written by folk that have no idea of which they write of. I remember
Rona Barrett doin a story on the China Syndrome saying the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant
was very close to the San Andreas fault which is WRONG. Rona only needed to do was look at a map.
