National Penguin Awareness Day 2010: PICTURES Of Penguins, What It Is, How To Celebrate (PHOTOS, INFO)

Penguin Awareness Day 2010 is today, Jan. 20, 2010, offering an opportunity to celebrate penguins around the world.

The penguin comes in a number of different species and some are being threatened by climate change, making the Awareness Day even more important.

It's easy to take part in the celebration of Penguin Awareness Day and share it with those you love. A number of tips on how to celebrate can be found on eHow, including wearing black and white, sending a Penguin Day e-card, replacing your desktop with penguin pictures, passing along penguin pictures, or watching penguin-related films.

Felicitations to the penguins on their special day! My favorite type of penguins live in Australia; they are the fairy penguins that are native to Philip Island, south of Melbourne. Every evening, they come out from the burrows along the shore and take a dip in the sea. Beach lovers--gotta love 'em!

I like the penguins with orange markings on their heads & beaks. Stupid question: Are there any penguins with orange beaks & feet or did a toy designer simply take poetic licence to create a toy like that? I have a grown son who used to have a toy like that. Since I'm in my dotage, I'd like a toy penguin like that. I'd like an enjoyable senility.

Fun Fact.... There are actually Penquins in the Galapagos Islands ,,, one north of the equator,,, i.e. there are Penguins native to the Northern Hemisphere
