White House Property Value

Zillow:

We first gave the White House a Zestimate in January 2009 as the Obama family was preparing to take residence. At that time, we estimated it was worth $308 million, based on the home's physical attributes (132 rooms! 55,000 square feet!), historical value and housing performance in the local Washington, DC market.

Today, as President Obama prepares to mark his first anniversary in office, our estimates put White House at a bit less: $292.5 million, a drop of $15.6 million, or 5.1 percent from last January.

Quick, sell it to China before the bottom drops out. Not much good has come from there in the last 100 years anyway

My property values have fallen more than 10%. I blame this on the previous occupant of the White House moving to about 3 miles away from me.

I assume that's because a black person moved into the neighborhood. This is why gays are so great! A gay person moves in next door, you get all the benefits of diversity, and property values actually go up!

America the beautiful... I believe the White House's value is also found in its keeping and stewardship by the master of the house.

I'd say the old mansion has certainly been in much steadier hands this past year than the prior eight.

I think Obama and McCain each spent a lot more than $308 million to live there.

So what? the White House is not for sale. Any house is not worth anything except what someone will pay for it on the actual day of sale. Article is a waste of time.

"But it’s not all bad news for the country’s most famous home. Just like most homes across the U.S., the White House’s decline in value over the past year was not as dramatic as it was the previous year. From January 2008 to January 2009, we estimate the White House lost almost $24 million in value, or 7.2 percent."

Anyone notice it lost more value under W's last year than in Obama's first year?

Property values have dropped all over the nation. I have no idea why this qualifies as a news story

I totally dislike this topic. Why is this BS even on this site? What are they trying to say?

Thank you for the distraction.

It's unfortunate, but true; when African Americans move into a neighborhood white flight occurs and property values go down.

I'm speechless. There is just no appropriate response to a comment as ignorant as this one.

The property value of the White House has nothing to do with the race of the occupants within it. This has to do with the economy. There are multimillionaires of various ethnic backgrounds whose home values decreased.

Take Zillow to court, and see how well you do!

Is it on the market? What's the point of this valuation?
