Whites-Only Basketball League: All-American Basketball Alliance Bans Blacks, Foreigners

A whites-only basketball league aims to launch in twelve cities this summer, according to a report in the Augusta Chronicle. The All-American Basketball Alliance would also ban players born outside the United States.

The league's commissioner, Don "Moose" Lewis, claims that he doesn't "hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now." Thus, he says, the All-American Basketball Alliance would be "a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like."

The report includes additional shocking quotes from the commissioner:

Lewis said he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of "street-ball" played by "people of color." ...

"Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?" he said. "That's the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction."

Come on, people admit it. If this league were aimed at any other race of people but Whites, it would be "pioneering", a "breakthrough" and any other superlative you could think of. I didn't hear any screams of racism when the negro leagues played... or about the Globetrotters.

wait, I'm Latino and a bit dark skin (like Tiger Woods) but my parents are American and look caucasian. Where does that leave me. I mean technically I fit the profile with the parents. My grandfathers were both very dark and grandmothers very fair skin with hazel-green eyes. I had issues growing up as some of my cousins teased me but I got to meet much of my family and see how beautiful we all were- many colors, but same blood in our veins. I'm glad to be a mulatto!

TanyaMiller is exactly right. People don't want segregation, except under circumstances in which it favors them. Is there a White European American Chamber of Commerce? There are Black Chambers and Latino Chambers. She's right you, if you are not a hypocrite, you shouldn't want to play this thing at both ends.

I do, however, thing the basketball league thing is a bad idea. I guess I will just have to wait for an all Black hockey league.

Segregation for any reason sucks.

This is definitely a bunch of white racist scared group of so called basketball players. They would be last pick on the playground. This is not about real basketball players who are open to compete. This is a closed league because not only do they hate other races but they are scared to play against them. Real basketball players know it is also about athletic ability and competing against the best players and if your fundamentals are weak you need to work on those too. These guys are admitting that fundamentals is all they have. But yeah, they should be able to have this league and play with each other in America because who else wants to play with them.

talent and fundamentals are not mutually exclusive. lebron james is one of the best players (if not the best) in the NBA and his fundamentals and court intelligence are off the charts.

But the all white team will not be private. In some states private groups can discriminate, and in some they can't, depends on the state. But once you start charging for admission and publicly displaying your organization then it's no longer private.

The thing that people need to be discussing here is not the racist nature of this alliance-to-be. Obviously, that has been established. Whether or not other organizations are just as racist is also of no consequence.

The forming of this league does not violate any laws, and will legally be allowed to continue regardless of anything short of overhauling the Bill of Rights.

I think the forming of this league is a positive thing. They get to think they're awesome at Basketball when they narrow the competition down to a ridiculous degree, and we get to enjoy less racists roaming about whilst they play. Everybody wins.
