Harrison Hickman: Elizabeth Wanted Him To Acknowledge Daughter With Rielle Hunter (VIDEO)

Harrison Hickman, longtime political adviser to John Edwards, appeared on the Today Show this morning to try to limit the fallout from the former Senator finally admitting he fathered a child out of wedlock with his former videographer Rielle Hunter.

Calling the situation "certainly more complicated than I knew," Hickman claimed that Edwards wanted to publicly acknowledge his paternity earlier, but simply could not bring himself to do it:

He had to be able to talk to Elizabeth about it. He had to be able to talk to Rielle about it. He had to talk to, us (and) his children about it. He had to deal with legal issues involving support for the child.

Despite this being a "very difficult time" for his wife Elizabeth, Hickman said, she wanted Edwards to come forward with the truth: "Elizabeth thinks he should acknowledge this."

Edwards also "wants people to know that he has provided for [his daughter] and will continue to provide for her, as he should, both financially and emotionally," relayed Hickman.
