Kanye West Banned From Haiti Telethon? MTV Says No

First Posted: 3/23/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Kanye West Haiti Telethon

Will Kanye West be allowed at the Clooney-helmed Haiti telethon airing this Friday?

"After what he said on the Katrina telethon and the way he behaved at the MTV Video Music Awards, everyone agrees it's just best that he does not participate," a source told AOL's PopEater. "Kayne has to make everything about himself. He will do anything to steal the spotlight and, well, this night it's just not about him."

It doesn't take an insider to point out Kanye's loose cannon tendencies, but "everyone" does not agree that he is disinvited from 'Hope for Haiti.' MTV, which is hosting the telethon, says there is no truth to AOL's reports of a Kanye ban.

"That's absolutely not true. We DID reach out to Kanye," a rep told Us Weekly.

Kanye grabbed headlines at a similar telethon to raise money for Hurricane Katrina in 2005 when he went off script and said, "George Bush doesn't care about black people."

Whether or not Kanye is invited, 'Hope for Haiti' has a star-studded lineup that includes Bono, Jay-Z, Bill Clinton, Chris Rock, Bruce Springstreen, Rihanna and Taylor Swift--who didn't have a great experience last time she shared the stage with Kanye.

The telethon airs at 8 pm EST Friday. In the meantime you can make a donation here.

Of coarse everyone brings up Katrina and wants to raise money for Haiti but I guess hurricane Ike victims just never get mentioned. Its because most hurricane Ike survivors are white and there's no publicity in helping white folks.Have to go to the poor areas and help to get publicity. That just shows that celebrities only help for publicity. The only celeb that lifted a finger for Ike folks was Neil Diamond. Thanks Neil!!!Thanks for nothin to the rest.Remember Bush didnt rush to our aid either so its not a black/white thing.Haiti didnt get any help quicker than New Orleans did either.Obama started talking about aide to Haiti but the folks in New Orleans actually started receiving help faster!!!!

They should make a goal of 10 million dollars in donations in ten minutes or some such to get Kanye and Taylor to do a duet. They could probably get it.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if Taylor Swift strolled out unannounced and interrupted him to make a donation.

You can't blame Obama for the Haiti relief effort he's not the president of Haiti. Haiti is not a common wealth of the U.S. -LOL
But we can all continue to blame Bush for Katrina- and Rightfully So.
last time I checked New Orleans = U.S. (BLACK PEOPLE AND ALL)

Ass Kissing has nothing to do with it. The Haiti Telethon is all about " Helping the People of Haiti"

Totally agree. If helping Haiti is the objective, everyone should be invited...even an Arschloch like Kanye!
11:15 AM on 01/22/2010
I agree, the objective is to help Haiti.

That's because he doesn't have Bush to blame, he'll kiss Obama's arse for doing nothing...

Didn't Obama react immediately in sending support to a foreign nation? How long did it take Ol' GW to do anything for his own countrymen?

Bill Clinton and George Bush are Doing it, Why not Taylor and Kanye?
Kanye West and Taylor Swift should appear on the Telethon together as a show of Unity. It would send out an extremely "Powerful Message, that dispite our past "Dramas " and "Differences", we can come together and help those in Need. "People are Dying in Haiti"

I would " Love" to see that!

Is he going to stop it and tell George Clooney that he's great and all, and he's gonna let him finish, but Live Aid was the best fundraising concert of ALL TIME?!

Just wondering.
10:27 PM on 01/21/2010
Wow, pretty original comment. Didn't see that one coming.

Has he committed some crime that I'm unaware of? Yes, he was crass, rude and obnoxious but definitely not uncharacteristically himself.

This is Kanye West we're talking about, not Nelson Mandela. And besides, MTV would be the last network I would expect to ban a celeb artist like Kanye, someone who apparently has the star power to creating a ratings bonanza. Not a fan myself, but he apparently can draw a crowd despite the whole Swift fiasco. But what do I know?

MTV is an opportunistic, gratuitous tripe generator...if they HAD banned him, I would probably wonder what was happening over at MTV.

Now, if they decided to not ban someone like Chris Brown, that would be worth covering.
06:09 PM on 01/22/2010
This is about people coming together for a cause that has nothing to do with your like or dislike of Chris Brown. This isn't about him it's about people in need. The same would apply to Charlie Sheen, if he wanted to help. Lord knows you people can't seem to let go of the drama surrounding a 19 year old kid. This is 2010, let it go. He wasn't the first and he won't be the last.

Of course he's not banned! He's on team Jay-z, who basically runs the music industry.
09:34 PM on 01/21/2010
Jay irritates me.
11:09 AM on 01/22/2010
I'm sure he cares!
11:28 PM on 01/21/2010
I can agree that Jay must run the music industry because adding Rihanna and her torturous voice to the show is a real let down. Hopefully she'll model clothes or something.

She attempted to sing Redemption Song by the great Bob Marley on Oprah. She butchered one of my favorite songs. I don't understand her appeal. Great artistry is dead.
